Koodo Reader is an open-source ebook reader for Linux, Windows, macOS and the Web

This is a great looking ebook reader for ePub, PDF, comic book archive and a few other formats. It allows highlighting, bookmarks and notes per book, and for non-PDFs there is also a reading mode with a side-by-side view (no page flipping animation, ...continues

It's cool that Kobo has a new color e-reader coming out, but I think I'll just continue buying used print books. 😆 Don't need another electronic device.

Kobo announces its first colour e-readers

Rakuten Kobo is launching its first colour e-readers, the Kobo Libra Colour and the Kobo Clara Colour. Both use E Ink’s latest Kaleido colour screen technology, which has subtle, pastel-like hues and drops from a 300ppi grayscale resolution to 150pp ...continues

I'm enjoying loads of new ebook and ereader related posts by @bhalpin to enjoy over on their blog.

Ooh! A very kind reference to Libreture, too. 😉

I've been using the Poke3 as my main ebook reader for a couple of years now, mainly because it's a convenient size, has a clear e-ink display, and can run the Android app for any eBook store. I just wish the touch screen was a bit more responsive.

There is a newer model -- and another similar-sized reader that's added back physical page-flip buttons -- but it still feels too early to replace the one I have.

Craft Project! I have a beloved Kobo Libra H2O. It has a proprietary case covered in a blue fake leather that began to flake. I took it off and for a while went with the cloth underneath. But that was beginning to fray and so I decided to fix it with my ninja bookmaking skills. Probably should have used a thinner cloth for the magnet but it looks beautiful!

Pondering some form of e-Ink and am looking for recommendations. Ideal featureset:

Screen: ~7" - don't like holding a 10" iPad, and an expired 6" ereader seems a fraction small.
PPI: >~300
Wifi
Ability to sync to/from CalibreWeb

I'd rather not pay Amazon for their products so that probably excludes the Kindles unless they are outstandingly worth it. Thoughts?

Has anyone had experience using a Kobo ereader but only loading books from their computer? Does it work well if you don’t access their store to get books?

Connected Kobo to local library and they have 335 comics and graphic novels availible!

Good Lord there is a buttload of Bleach and My Hero Academia, and Spy Family, and Dragon Ball Z, and soo soo soo much Naruto - I stopped counting at Volume 75..

Oh and all of the Lumberjanes so I know what I'm reading the rest of this month !

I want an ereader that doesn't require a cloud account to use, has a decent battery, and supports epub. Does such a thing exist. You can use boox ereaders without a cloud account, but I would prefer a simple book focused ui over android.

Things do bring joy when they fit your life perfectly. Looking back at 2023, these new tech HW/SW additions to my life truly brought joy:

  • Small lightweight tablet as ebook reader
  • Small smartphone
  • Handheld retro game console
  • Mobile scanner
  • Universal remote
  • Epub reader that works on both Android/iOS devices and syncs b/w them
  • Linux mini PC
  • Python IDE for kids
  • Retractable fountain pen
