As my profile says, I'm just an old retired out exploring this new-to-me thing called the Fediverse. I consider myself a geek but a bit of an odd one in that I do love all things computer and technology related but am not into the usual comic book, sci-fi, video game, etc. activities often associated with geekdom. My other interests are antiques, collectibles, resellng, and photography. Other than that, feel free to ask as I am an open book. Oh, I also like the movie War Games :-) #introduction
Well I have done it. I have finished my move to Proton. The final bit was moving my iCloud email over and I just did that. All my emails are now going to my proton account, even my domain email.
So, that makes email and passwords/passkeys that I’ve divorced Apple of. That will probably be it though for the foreseeable future as my family is quite engulfed in the Apple ecosystem for our workflow.
@beardedtechguy Very nice! Any specific reason for the switch to @protonprivacy or any particular reason for the switch away from Apple with regards to this stuff?
Now, if we could just get all of the #AllThingsTech stuff to use Proton, that would be absolutely amazing!
If you are a user who is on an instance that has or is planning on defederating from Threads.net and would like to be somewhere that gives YOU the choice if you block/mute Threads or certain accounts on Threads, I'd like to let you know that #AllThingsTech welcomes you and will help you get your account setup in any way we can.
The choice is yours what gets blocked/muted. If you have questions, reach out to myself or @kylewritescode
Okay #Fediverse. This whole fiasco with let’s just keep the name disclosed, that chooses to kick instances out that choose not to defederated with Threads is getting to me.
So myself and @cliffwade are making a list on our Wiki of instance that both federate and defederate from Threads. We feel people so have the choice themselves and not have someone else choose for them.
Here’s my latest post on #AllThingsTech talking about #EpicGames and their new store and asking questions about how the focus on regulating Big Tech will actually affect consumers
