Once confined to the seedy corners of the internet, rapid advancements in AI technology has turbo charged the spread of deepfake pornographic videos on mainstream social media platforms.
Note: when a Bollywood "film" is featured in a #HallOfShame post, it is automatically implied that besides plot elements, the “film” has also copied scenes and sequences from the original. 😀
Rewind to 2006:
Today’s “film”, a pioneer of sorts, 😀 plagiarized/cloned a popular Korean movie, becoming one of the earliest Bollywood “films” to do so.
‘Bantering with Bandits’: Annie Zaidi’s searing truths about Indian preoccupations and peculiarities
This book of essays by @anniezaidi creates a space where the personal and the political fuse to paint an often uncomfortable picture of our sociopolitical reality.
Shah Rukh Khan and the director Atlee’s tedious blockbuster has a veneer of being political even as it bends to prevailing winds – and its gender bias does not help. Anna MM Vetticad writes.

Today I discovered something interesting — YouTube has fairly good versions of Hindi movies from back in the 80s and 90s!
Well, I think I actually discovered this yesterday when I found “Betaab” but I didn’t actually realize this till today when I searched for “EK Ladka Ek Ladki” (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0291883)
Back in the 90s, Hindi movies blatantly copied Hollywood movies (with no attribution or permission, mind you) and made their own versions. “Ek Ladka Ek Ladki” is one such movie which copies Kurt Russel & Goldie Hawn’s “Overboard” (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093693).
This movie is probably responsible for getting me into Hindi movies again and for learning Hindi just so I could watch the movies 🙂
I generally never watch a movie twice (with a few exceptions) but I think I must have watched this one at least 5 times …
The last time I looked for “Ek Ladka Ek Ladki” on YouTube, the only copy I could find was a really dark and hard to watch version. So this version is certainly a find for me 🙂
This gives me an idea! Maybe I should look for other movies from the 90s that copied Hollywood movies and post about them every once in a while?
I generally love the Bollywood version to the Hollywood version of these “re-makes”. So it might be interesting to introduce more people to these versions …

Ashok Pandit is a Hindu right-wing filmmaker propagating Hindu nationalist propaganda through films. He is a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) sympathizer.
Pandit was a co-producer of the 2019 propaganda film, ‘The Accidental Prime Minister,’ which portrayed former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh as a “puppet” prime minister.
He also co-produced the Islamophobic movie “72 Hoorain,” which translates to “72 Virgins,” in which Muslim beliefs are openly mocked, and the community is brazenly demonized.
Indian musician and vocal coach, Mr. AV Peace, employs a really creative method in his teaching. He draws out these intricate maps to help visualize notes and sounds. They’re quite mesmerizing.
Interview: ‘Big filmmakers are being mobilised by the state to further the majoritarian project’
Many movies slated for release in the run-up to 2024 have a definite purpose – to generate hatred of Muslims, says Ira Bhaskar, a professor of cinema studies.
