Says #Hyundai, “We’re trying to make driving an #EV affordable.” I think they’re early to understand a feature of the EVs that US automakers are slow to realize. Disruption starts at the low end, and with high interest rates, the low end needs to be lower. Consumers won’t pay a premium because it’s an EV. The early adopter market is saturated. Manufacturers need to appeal to buyers who are buying for transportation utility. https://www.theverge.com/24163520/hyundai-randy-parker-interview-ev-sales-ioniq-sales
Private Eye highlights the Ev reporting in the Telegraph. And why this is just one subject, Ev reporting is a microcosm of how many other issues are reported in much of the press. The next 6 weeks are going to be really special… #ev#ukpolitics
GM is going to lose a mountain of money. Ford released their BEVs right at the peak of the market and with sizable margins. They still lost money. Now GM is going to compete for scraps.
Meanwhile, a hybrid small car is ~$25k, and would easily be cheaper to own than any BEV GM is selling.
The KIA EV3 looks sharp, and pricing appears compelling. Tariffs on government subsidized China-made #EV are not a “get out of jail free card” for American auto manufacturers. With South Korea adding downward pricing pressure, it will drive consumer adoption. https://mastodon.social/@lackattack/112490868284088698
I had someone telling me about how electric cars are always burning houses down, and I'm like, “Uh, I've had 6 EV now over the past 12 years, and no one I know has had their EV burn their house down.” It does happen, but it’s pretty damn rare. By comparison, fried turkeys burn down 900 houses per year, lol. #EV
Likely, the necessary "upgrades" that Ford demanded of its dealership network will be completely abandoned. We may even see Ford reimburse many dealerships.
I'm going to predict that Nissan never builds any BEVs there. Why does the world need yet another BEV factory? It doesn't, and Nissan is in no position to chase the bottom of the market.
The point is well-made: BEV dominance cannot happen without a well-funded charging network. But without strong growth, and competition from hybrids, this is not going to happen. As a result, BEVs become trapped as urban commuters, mainly owned by people with home charging.
My own view is that this is inevitable anyways. BEVs should never had been pushed as the only solution.
the remote #PacificIslanders still under French #colonial control whose island holds 25% of the world's nickel deposits are rioting for the second straight week... the indigenous miners are unhappy with their exploitive #EU yokemasters, and you are only hearing about it now because it is raising #EV battery prices in our #GlobalEconomy ...
#Battery based #EV are a fad, scam and duds. Absolute cul-de-sac stopping us from implementing real solutions to get away from hydrocarbon-based ICEs.
We could absolutely switch/transition to #LH2 ICEs from diesel ICE tech (higher press manifolds than #gasoline), and do that for a long while, before we get to some Clarkes-3rd-Law solution (lol).
