The best way to show someone how great modern Linux has gotten is to have them set up a new computer dual booting Windows and Linux. I’m helping onboard some colleagues with new laptops and the only complaints are with Windows, not Endless OS. 😝
Today I'm attempting to exclusively use the Pinebook Pro (running Endless OS!) for work, and it has actually gone better than expected. At the same time, dang, we're still lacking in a few ways on ARM; notably, app availability! How is Firefox not available on Flathub for ARM64??
Endless OS 5.1 is available as a preview release for Pinebook Pro, now with more detailed instructions—including flashing to the internal eMMC! Give it a try and let us know what you think.
If you're following us here on Mastodon, you might know why open source matters. But just in case, here's a bit of insight from our participation at GUADEC, and how it relates to our mission!
I missed this, but you can now use Ubuntu images in Toolbx! I know distrobox exists, but Toolbx ships with Endless OS, so this is relevant to my interests. 😃
If you've ever wondered about Endless OS, this person made a video all about it and it seems that they fundamentally understand (and highly praise!) what we're doing. It's a great overview of the product and the rationale. Give it a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrBMwA_bJuY
Tada, the app @EndlessOS has been working on for ChromeOS and Windows for some time now has finally made it full circle to #Linux (and thus #EndlessOS) via #Flathub. 🎉
Say hello to Endless Key, the app for curated learning anytime, anywhere.
Learners can explore dozens of educational resources for extended learning. There’s coding, arts & crafts, cooking, STEM, and more available both online and offline.
Streaming! YouTube somehow changed the visibility to unlisted, which was not helpful. But if you want to see me work on Endless Key on Endless OS a bit, you can join now!

…and a whole lot more! It was a blast, and I’m sure there’ll be shorter clips in the coming days if the two-hour runtime is daunting. 😅
@passthejoe yeah, fair. My build machine runs #openSUSE Aeon (née #microOS#desktop) since I sometimes want to use it interactively as a gaming machine, and.. it's been reasonable to update (I don't update it that often).
I have not tried #EndlessOS, but that's precisely an immutable distro based on a stable base - it's more end user oriented, but pretty sure you can install whatever you want on top, especially Distrobox. Worth a spin?
I’ve spent a long, long time thinking about ethical software, the challenges we necessarily give ourselves compared to closed competitors, and crucially, how to overcome those challenges.
Four and a half years ago, I wrote:
>respecting your privacy is the ethical thing to do; users have a fundamental right to the utmost privacy, even from companies and products they trust.
I hope this can serve as the beginning of the ecosystem coming together to solve this unique challenge in a way that is objectively superior than any proprietary system—all with privacy as the fundamental principle.
Revamping documentation today, and hoo boy there’s SO. MUCH. HERE.
It’s a good problem to have (better than not having enough!), but it means cleaning up a decade worth of notes, screenshots, procedures, etc. and trying to reorganize it to make more sense. 😅
One fun thing has been updating instructions and screenshots to use newer Libadwaita apps! On that note, check it out, we recommend using Impression for flashing an image:
