Grml.

As an 'IT Pro' I frequently get asked to 'have a quick look at my computer' etc but I dread being asked to setup a new printer because the experience is generally pretty poor.

I've previously reboxed a HP printer and took it back because the setup was dreadful and I couldn't get the unit working properly.

But I have to say, the multi-function unit I've just installed was a breeze - job done in about 5 minutes.

I successfully installed on the 5.1! Thanks to this tutorial: https://mattgadient.com/linux-dvd-images-and-how-to-for-32-bit-efi-macs-late-2006-models/I'm happy, because we could no longer use the scanner and the laser printer connected to it.And I am pleasantly surprised by the ease of installation of the drivers provided by the manufacturers.

HP sued (again) for blocking third-party ink from printers, accused of monopoly

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/01/hp-sued-again-for-blocking-third-party-ink-from-printers-accused-of-monopoly/

Suit seeks injunction blocking HP from bricking printers using third-party ink.

I have had Epson do this to me as well — after an update the printer was bricked.

Kupiłem rodzinie drukarkę/skaner, żeby mogła na szybko zeskanować dokumenty w kolorze/czarno biało.
Epson‑2200.
Skonfigurowałem.
Włączają, wkładają dokument na płaskie skaner, naciskają przycisk do czarno białego, jak nacisną szybciej to tyle kopi dostaną co nacisną.
Oddzielny przycisk do kolorowego.

Np. „mój monitor znowu działa, to kolejny dzień, chyba trzysetny, że mój monitor marki X nadal działa. WOW”.

Why does every freakin printer listing have seven images including a model standing next to the printer but NONE of the back or sides showing the connectivity!!

JFC I am SO sick of opaque-operation feature-proliferation- upsell culture.

Just show me the ports!! 😤

I'm still trying to repair my behemoth that everyone hates because of the inkjets, although it has all the other features I need.

But meanwhile looking to see if maybe there's an alternative:

--USB
--ethernet (no I do NOT want wireless crap in ANY part of my life!)
--fax (sorry, but my profession still uses them and I NEED fax capability including landline phone input AND output ports)
--scanner
--copier
--monochrome is okay!

Since Google is worse than ever I can't even search for it.

I did start to replace the print head, but you can't actually get new ones. Only refurbished ones that reportedly have a 40% chance of working. And after we took the printer to bits, I opened the box with the refurbished print head, and two of the four jets were completely missing.

So I returned it and ordered another. Even if it doesn't work, I may keep that one to use as a scanner, since the scanning is one function I like somewhat better than the Brother.

@_L1vY_@mstdn.social avatar

But MEANWHILE.

I did have the still standing in pieces waiting for me to have the time to install the second refurbished replacement print head, and tonight I finally completed that task!

Now I will have to wait until I have an extra, what, $60 bucks to waste on an ink cartridge just to try it out, but we'll see.

Anyway I can now clean up that tabletop and close this YouTube tab after five MONTHS:

If the replacement print head doesn't work once I eventually get experiment ink for it, I may still hook up the just for the capability of scanning masses of individual sheets at one go. That's the only thing the doesn't do that I would really like.

The traditional Thanksgiving "repair household items" activity. I needed some moral support to get past my intimidation and attempt this relatively simple replacement, so I enlisted my son.
I forgot he does robotics at school so he ended up taking over as we progressed. 😂
But still nice to work together!

Anyone from on the Fediverse and happen to work on their iProjection software? If so, please make it work with . That is the one show stopper that is blocking me/us from creating ipv6 only and ipv6 mostly wireless networks. For some reason iProjection won't work through nat64 or directly with ipv6, even though the projector's web interface does work with native IPv6.

I'll even send you a pizza or two if that would help! :)

Forget F1: the only car race that matters now is the race to turn your car into a digital extraction machine, a high-speed inkjet printer on wheels, stealing your private data as it picks your pocket. Your car's digital infrastructure is a costly, dangerous nightmare - but for automakers in pursuit of postcapitalist utopia, it's a dream they can't give up on.

You've probably noticed the skirmishes with makers, who can only force you to buy their ink at 20,000% markups if they can stop you from deciding how your printer is configured:

But we're also fighting against makers, who want to turn people with into walking inkjet printers:

Does anybody have anything to say about printers as a whole? I had a nice 7 year old workhorse of a Canon printer whose Obsolescence Chip gave up the ghost today. Looking into it, Epson seems to be the only home office calibre manufacturer that still lets you use the same universal ink cartridges instead of a dozen different non-interchangeable and non-refillable ones?

cazabon, to technology in HP disables customers’ printers if they use ink cartridges from cheaper rivals

@joytoworld93 @Heterokromia @yogthos

That's terrible. When I added a Lexmark printer to my network a year ago, I firewalled it off from the outside world on general principle - it never even occurred to me that a printer manufacturer would make communicating with the mothership a requirement for normal operation. I guess I'm lucky hasn't gone that route.

I'm glad you found something else that works for you. Did you get an printer? Very cost-effective.
