Today is the second time in my life that I've seen Chinese pairs skaters have an unfortunate time when the woman gets thrown into the boards. This one (Peng/Wang) wasn't as catastrophic as the last (Zhang/Zhang, 2006 Olympics) but it still looked painful.

So one of my hobbies is to go around and make designs in the wild ice, “figures”. (The artform that is the predecessor to modern day figure skating.) Today in 1928, Barbara Ann Scott was born in Ottawa.
In her figure-skating career, she won the 1948 Olympic gold, 2 world championships & 4 Canadian championships.
She is the only Canadian to win the ladies singles gold at the Olympics.
She died on Sept. 30, 2012.
