#Fosstodon friends, what are your recommendations for software tools, platforms, hosting? I'm looking for free to cheap solutions. I'm personally interested in Jekyll and have professional experience developing Wordpress, but I feel WP is a bit overkill for this project.

I don't know about other instances, but here on #fosstodon we have emojis of Clippy, but not the normal kind.

Instead, we have multiple pieces of Clippy that must be reconstructed like some some kind of eldrich summoning from some hell dimension.

Per the server announcement we're now on version 4.2.0

(blaze it)

and that means we've got full-text search!

As some have found out that -does- include alt-text on images.

BUT, that's a lot of crap to chug through all at once. And the results therefore are still kind of old or incomplete.

The systems are working, it just takes time. Also it's opt-in.

Keep your lids on, and soon that stupid meme you saw on local TL 3 years ago, or last week, will be findable!

Every time I open #fosstodon media fails to load. A hard refresh on the page fixes it. This is consistently repeatable:

1. Closing the browser or rebooting does nothing
2. Clearing cookies/local storage on the fosstodon domain doesn't resolve it.

How do you fix this permanently?

One thing I wish #fosstodon had is a longer limit on message length. I am often envious of people on other instances that can post much longer messages. When I first joined #mastodon I didn't realize that instances could set their own length limit so it's not something I paid attention to. I love the content here, don't get me wrong, but having the ability to post longer messages rather than having to break them up into multiple messages might be nice.
