Private automobiles are not the future of anything, and it is a gross mis-allocation of funds to waste money on expanding roads.

The communities that were crushed and divided by highways can be repaired, though they will never have the same vibrancy as before, nor will the original displaced inhabitants benefit in any way.

But it's a start.

"...Decades ago, people decided to create the freeways. Now, we must decide if we will continue this path or reverse the damage to repair our communities..."

One of my favorite road signs in all of Missouri, seen heading west on Interstate 70 in St. Charles County.

I very seldom drive there, but when I do, I love to startle the rest of my family by saying "Look everyone, we're coming up to Bryan ..." then screaming "ROAD!" at the top of my lungs.

I'm not sure why they decided to make "ROAD" uppercase, but I am forever grateful.

Capitalism is some kind of corrosive erosion on public resources. The state selling space beneath highways has allowed dangerous materials to be stored under public transportation conduits. The recent LA freeway disaster anticipates other places, other foolish uses.
When visiting Daegu 10 years ago, there were vegetable gardens, fruits and perennials growing under highways. In the 1970's-80s artist Bonnie Sherk built "The Farm" under SF highways.

I don't even drive the #7 from Dartmouth, the traffic is less and the route is closer via the Airport, to get to the end of Rural . But I am interested in the new Development down the road.

When I lived on the , it was a full 2 hour commute. The newer 100 series highway was 100 km speed, no towns or villages, and faster and shorter than the # 7 highway in the same area. We're about 90 minutes drive time since 1980.

Anyone out there know of studies on the safety of people & along the when there are flashing electronic present?

My city's looking to get rid of an ordinance that prevents sign content from changing faster than a minute (or thereabouts), to allow signs to flash & change at any speed.

This is the sort of thing I would've put out on twitter back in the day... Mastodon, watcha got for me?😃

PLEASE DON'T FEED THE MOOSE!

Parks Canada is warning drivers not to stop while on highways to let moose lick their cars this winter, as more moose venture down to highways to fuel their salt intake.

I’m riding on an that parallels and and noticed that the side of the highway is lined with litter but people can’t throw their trash out of a train window so the train tracks are litter-free. Yet another way that car dependency destroys our environment but people just accept it because you don’t see the damage from a car window.

"According to the #TxDOT draft document, a chunk of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act money will be transferred to a #highway program, and the agency says #HighwayExpansions could be eligible for the funds because they will reduce congestion, thereby reducing #emissions from idling cars.

To reduce emissions, “we want people on bikes, walking, and taking public transit instead of driving,” Humphreys said. “And nowhere does TxDOT say that’s the goal.”"

This is what you find on a , or , serviced toilet that you pay 1€ (about $1 US) to use. Not sure why people don't flush or if something was wrong with the toilet plumbing.

If you have photos that you took yourself and that you would like to share with the world, let me know. Important is you took them yourself, aka. original content. With or without attribution. Check in the profile for submission way.

In the cabin next to that there was a toilet with some splatter on the seat and plumbing with what I beliefe was shit.

In these extreme heat events, Roads are going to fail. Asphalt starts to melt at 120F becoming common in these extreme heat temperatures. Tires are going to fail, taking on melted asphalt.

All those highways will be useless in the future, and all those cars useless. Unless we do something NOW.

The earth may cure itself by making our current lifestyle impossible.
