#Lakota Youths Raising Voices for #Palestine -- 'Our Liberation is Linked'
By International Indigenous Youth Council, Oglala Lakota Chapter via #CensoredNews, March 29, 2024
"In a world plagued by injustices and oppression, the youth of the #OglalaLakotaNation raise their voices in support for Palestine. As descendants of a people who have faced centuries of systemic violence and displacement, we intimately understand the pain and suffering inflicted by colonialism and genocide.
Just as our ancestors fought to preserve our way of life and sovereignty, we stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people as they resist occupation and defend their right to self-determination. The parallels between our struggles are undeniable, rooted in a shared history of dispossession, displacement, and cultural erasure.
The ongoing atrocities committed against the Palestinian people, including the recent escalation of violence and displacement in #Gaza, serve as a reminder of the urgent need for global solidarity and action. We refuse to remain silent in the face of oppression and injustice.
"Together, we raise our voices to condemn the brutal acts of violence and state-sanctioned discrimination perpetrated by the Israeli government. We demand an end to the illegal occupation of Palestinian lands and the immediate cessation of all forms of violence against civilians.
"As Oglala youth, we recognize that our liberation is intricately linked to the liberation of all oppressed peoples around the world. By standing in solidarity with Palestine, we reaffirm our commitment to justice, equality, and human rights for all.
"Let us unite in our struggle against #colonialism, #imperialism, and #genocide. Together, we can create a world where every individual and community can thrive in freedom and dignity."
BISMARCK, North Dakota -- "The Morton County Sheriff's Department sent a letter to President-elect Donald Trump which accused #StandingRock water protectors of crimes that there was no evidence of -- crimes water protectors were never charged with. The letter urges Trump to stop the protest of the #DakotaAccessPipeline."
Tell U.S. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland and the Advisory Committee on Reconciliation in Place Names to work with the U.S. Board on Geographic Names to replace every offensively titled place on Lakota Law’s Geographic Names Hall of Shame. You can customize your message and also recommend any other offensive place names of which you're aware!
**Devil’s Tower is an important place with deep significance to many #NativeNations. It’s highly inappropriate that this #SacredSite — so meaningful to the cultural histories and spiritual traditions of the first inhabitants of this land — should carry a name alluding to an evil originating from a book of non-Native spirituality. We recommend official adoption of its #Lakota name: Bear Lodge.
@jeffowski
Sioux means Snake, and it's an insulting misnomer given to them by whities who were told that name by opposed neighbors. They are called #Lakota.
History repeats itself. Because it is, right now, right before our eyes. A history lesson most likely not taught at any level in our schools. And now, sadly, less so. The reason history should never be banned.

THACKER PASS AND THE UGLY TRADITION OF EXTRACTION WITHOUT INDIGENOUS PERMISSION
By Tokata Iron Eyes
Peehee mu'huh (or #ThackerPass, as it’s known in English), a sensitive wilderness area located in what is now called #HumboldtCounty, #Nevada, sits on the ancestral homelands of the #Paiute and #Shoshone peoples. Right now, these lands are threatened by a #lithium mining project being developed by a company called #LithiumNevada, a subsidiary of #LithiumAmericasCorp .
that shape the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of projects.
Of course, the U.N. has good reason to make its declaration. The story of #IndigenousOpposition to #extraction isn’t new, and the #Lakota people are no strangers to extractive industry looking to exploit our homelands. From the protests against the Dakota Access pipeline ( #DAPL ) at #StandingRock to mining in the #BlackHills , these violent practices have a storied #history.
#BenAndJerrys have this wonderful post on their homepage 👏
Here it goes:
The #US Was Founded on Stolen #Indigenous Land—This #July4, Let’s Commit to Returning It
Ah, the Fourth of July. Who doesn't love a good parade, some tasty barbecue, and a stirring fireworks display? The only problem with all that, though, is that it can distract from an essential truth about this nation’s birth: The US was founded on stolen Indigenous land.
After decades fighting to keep #colonizers off their land, the #Lakota and other #tribes signed the #FortLaramieTreaties of 1851 and 1868, establishing a 35-million-acre “permanent home” for them that included the #BlackHills.
What’s your definition of “permanent”? Well, to #US officials at the time, it apparently was something along the lines of “until gold is discovered.”
"We are poor because our resources were stolen from us…But our connection to the #BlackHills is not a monetary one. Our main concern is that the land not be desecrated and we be allowed to resume our role as stewards of the land—that is our purpose as #Lakota."
Red Dawn Foster, Oglala Lakota, #SouthDakota state senator
These White cosplayers stole an Indigenous language, copywrite it, & are now selling it back to the Indigenous community at exorbitant rates.
They recorded his grandmother speaking & now they are taking legal action to prevent him from accessing the language & speaking his own language. He is a language instructor.
