Elon doesn’t like the fact that Twitterbird flies in reverse since they’ve filled its little head with his own social media knowledge.
Today he announced that he will send our beloved birdie on permanent leave and replace it with an X.
Still too many thinks Mastodon is one website with "too strict rules", but it's also hard to explain without using any technical terms that it's multiple "services" and you can still see everyone's posts regardless of what site you have account on. Many don't realize that there are a lot of us.
I do get why people are reluctant to join, but at the same time I'm frustrated about those "I won't join because it's too politically left" or "I won't join because reasons". I had a Twitter list "standard stuff" where I listed the core accounts I definitely wanted to hear about. This fav list grew over the years and had 120 users in total. These were active users that in the golden era posted every day. These were the ones I wanted to read whenever possible.
I wanted to see what's the status today so I went through every account and here's the result. By "inactive" I mean users who haven't posted anything in two months or more.
20% have completely deleted their account (the list now has 95 users)
36% still post frequently
64% are inactive or quit using Twitter
30% are inactive without any reason given
23% of those who still post on X also have active Mastodon, Bluesky or Threads accounts
I guess no more private groups on Twitter anymore. I wonder, when will Mastodon wil implement actual federated groups, which can provide the Circle-like feature, but on the Fediverse. :neocat_think:
The numbers are in, and it’s not looking good as Twitter lost 13% of it’s active users after a year Elon bought Twitter. I wonder how the numbers will fare once he starts pay walling Twitter.
Eu tenho esse perfil criado faz um tempo, mas acabei não usando. Agora, acho que chegou a hora de dar adeus ao Twitter de vez.
Não só por causa da direção que o Musk tá dando pro tt, mas também porque o Mastodon tá muito mais alinhado com o que eu considero ideal pra uma rede social.
Só por entrar aqui e ter uma TL sem ads e sem um monte de perfis aleatórios empurrados por algoritmo, já vejo sentido na transição.
This doesn’t bode well in the long term survival of Twitter/X. Most of the biggest advertisers aren’t advertising on Twitter any more, maybe because of all the hate speech, extremism, and misinformation perhaps.
