I just got an email from BookBrush this morning, and it contained a survey about interest in creating AI narrated #audiobooks with them if I would paid a one-time fee of $999 USD to join that service. Of course my first thought was what about the #narrators? What about quality? And a number of other things. I did some research and I’m even more concerned, and of course, the email was sparse in details. While it’s tempting as a #SelfPublished author, I still care about the people it effects. The narrators and the authors. Am I being too paranoid about this or is the appropriate reaction? Who wants to discuss? #WritersofMastodon#SelfPublishing
Kinners, mer könne bald hier, Dings, Cover Reveal, nech? ❤
The best thing I did in my #SelfPublishing journey was to become friends with lots of writers who followed the #TraditionalPublishing path. I followed their marketing path as closely as I could. I wasn't able to match their promotions budget, but their publishers did things on their behalf that anyone can do.
Still learning but, that one trick continues to pay dividends.
#WordWeavers 12/12: Have you ever wanted to give up writing? What helped you to continue?
Yes. I regularly question my desire to write and publish books when I look at my royalties. Is it really worth putting in so much hope and heartbreak? Not to mention money for the covers?
Then I think of my characters, and I just can't let them go. Also, writing a series feels like a promise to my readers, even if it's a chore to write the books when they don't sell.
Some bad news for me this morning: Draft2Digital have just confirmed to me that their Creative Commons policy will remain the same following the merger with Smashwords: banned.
Side note: it would have been nice if Smashwords had told me this. I asked them back in Feb 2022 when the merger was announced, and their response was "we haven't discussed this yet". (No reply to later follow-up email.) It would also be nice if those with decision-making power in the publishing industry had learned the difference between Creative Commons and PLR.
This means that I am now looking for other options for the two (soon to be three) fantasy novels and one humorous nonfiction compilation that are currently being vended through Smashwords and their distribution network.
Fortunately, I can do the formatting myself. Know of any CC-friendly online vendors? Reliable ecommerce plugins? I'd particularly like to make sure the books are still accessible to libraries.
Finally got a collection of 50 sonnets (+1 bonus "joke" sonnet) put together and edited to my satisfaction. I'm looking forward to this being my first #SelfPublishing experience, as there's no way in hell a publisher will take a sonnet cycle in 2024.
Next step is cover art...really tempted to try doing it myself.
Help me clear out some studio space. I just put the hardcovers of “Twenty Bits I Learned About Making Fonts” and “…Websites” on a massive sale for a while✌️#selfpublishing#inventory#nowheretoputthesnowblower
^^ #selfpublishing#Fantastik#schreiben@buechermachen
