News / Pretendo Network: You can now StreetPass your 3DS friends from anywhere in the world!
Have you had trouble finding anyone to #StreetPass for Happy Home Showcase in New Leaf?
If you have, the team at @pretendo have just made it easier! With the latest version of Nimbus (which allows you to connect to the network), you're now able to StreetPass people online from anywhere in the world!
However, it's not that simple. Due to the buggy implementation of StreetPass for some games, you'll only be able to StreetPass people you've friended on your console (well that's 0 for me). It makes use of a feature called StreetPass Relay which was used at Nintendo Zones which allowed you to upload your data and download others.
I think I'll just stick to real StreetPasses for now though (I got 3 in the last year). Anyone reading from the South West or West Midlands?
News / StreetPass: Modders have gotten StreetPass to go online!
If you're a #Nintendo3DS owner, you might be pleased to hear that modders have made an online version of #StreetPass called NetPass, which allows you to StreetPass users on your 3DS.
It's great if you're struggling to find people, although I have thankfully had some StreetPasses with 3 people in the last year, 2 of which gave me Animal Crossing New Leaf data!
Soon, StreetPass won't inject any client-side javascript at all. This has a few benefits:
Will remove scary “scripting” permissions. Will guarantee at a platform level that StreetPass will never be able to manipulate the content you're looking at on the web.
Will never run on the main thread. StreetPass currently uses a MutationObserver to detect client-side page transitions, but unfortunately this method is not as performant as I had expected (https://github.com/tvler/streetpass/issues/63)
StreetPass now has preset options for opening profiles with Mona (@MonaApp) and Phanpy (@phanpy)! First update of 2024 - some cool things coming later 😄
Does anyone have any suggestions for improvements to the "Open With" settings on #streetpass? any clients that it's unable to support? Adding Mona as a default preset later today thanks to a suggestion from @manitius so I'll be working in that part of the code
Hey @tvler. It’s nice to see that #Streetpass can open profile URLs in other apps. Perhaps you can add @MonaApp. The URL mona:{profileUrl.noProtocol} appears to work.
@tvler Hi! I use and love #StreetPass on my mac, but I’m curious if there's any chance we'll see a mobile version? Maybe even with syncing passes across devices?
Introducing a new major feature for StreetPass: Hiding profiles!
Now you can hide and unhide profiles in your StreetPass list to keep things organized. If you wanna go full Inbox Zero mode, there's also an option to automatically hide profiles when clicked! (ty @prenagha for the great feature suggestion)
I get google and apple avoiding extensions like the plague (they directly compete with their monopoly stores), but I wish #firefox had better support for extensions.
StreetPass now displays user avatars! This feature's a long time coming, and even took me contributing a small code change to the recent Mastodon 4.2 update 😉 https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/26558
Along with that, the entire UI's been tightened up a bit -- hope y'all like it!
So excited to announce a brand new feature for StreetPass: Custom Profile URLs! Users now have the ability to set a custom URL scheme they want profiles to be opened with.
This feature is super powerful. Not only can you set it to your home server to easily follow people, you can also set it to 3rd party Mastodon apps... even native ones (🤯)! A few presets include @ivory, @elk, and @IceCubesApp, as well as mastodon.social & mastodon.online
