Thousand Oaks Acorn: Prizes, maps, workshops and training highlight Bicycle Month
"The Ventura County Transportation Commission and the nonprofit Bike Ventura County organization use prizes, maps and training to accomplish these goals.
The commission’s new guide, “Biking Ventura County: Routes & Tips for Beginners & Families,” makes it easy to find a place to ride. It highlights shared-use paths and separated bike lanes across the county and provides guidance on safety, e-bikes and tips for taking bicycles aboard public transit. "
"A Brew Ride takes place on the second Sunday of each month from 1 to 4:30 p.m., starting at 490 N. Ventura Ave. This social ride celebrates Ventura’s award-winning breweries, but safety is paramount.
“There’s no excessive drinking and riding,” Abele said. “Riders enjoy tastings and . . . chat with local brewers.”
The casual ride starts after lunch, and participants will have just enough time for one drink at each of two brewery visits. “Remember, on the road, cyclists are vehicles subject to all traffic laws, including those against drunk driving,” Abele said. "

Ventura County seeking volunteers for the Point In Time Homeless Count.
The Ventura County Continuum of Care needs volunteers for the upcoming Point In Time Homeless count on January 24th!
The count serves as a crucial tool for understanding the extent and nature of homelessness within the region while securing critical federal funding.
Conducted annually, this count provides a snapshot of the homeless population on a specific day (January 24th), aiding policy makers, service providers, and advocates in assessing the effectiveness of current interventions and shaping future strategies.
Noticed this at the temporary housing the other day. Daylight through a door... leaking heat out, cold in. Easy fix to this. Really helpful during something like this Polar Vortex to minimize heat loss. #weatherization#insulation#enery#EnergyEfficiency
