I just read that @standardnotes was acquired by @protonprivacy . I am disappointed given I've been a happy user for over 5 years, with over 800 notes archived privately and used daily.

I am looking for alternatives, and evaluating @obsidian @cryptee and (which I am very impressed with). Other suggestions, welcomed.

Hey people, as it seems fashionable here to humblebrag by posting screenshots of graphs: What exactly are the benefits of a graph view? Aren't bi-directional links just simpler and thus more effective?

I'm genuinely interested, so educate me, please.

spinningthoughts,
@spinningthoughts@pkm.social avatar

@gisiger There‘s a vague utility in assessing "cluster health" and I have used the local graph with depth 2-3 to assess deep relations between notes.

That said, graph interfaces like this are too informal to really scale in application. Toolings like and make graph views a little more meaningful by adding document types into the mix, but even then, it‘s a tenacious utility at best.

Really impressed with how far AnyType has come in the last year. As I predicted in my article from the Alpha version, it didn't take long at all for this app to match Notion for everything I needed to organize important aspects of my life.

It still has a bit of a learning curve and some sticky areas, but it's fully functional, secure, and streamlined enough to pick up with just a few hours of practice setting up a course schedule for my classes in the Summer/Fall.

Learning how to use Anytype is easy when you take the time to read through the documentation.

But, moving from a free form like to an outliner seems to me a bit of a hassle.

Do you use the both? Do you prefer one over the other?

Calixthe,

@geffrey I think is a beautiful piece of software, but my brain is wired for style namespacing. Linking and organizing notes in one action is easier for me. I can't wrap my mind around a folder structure. I still keep Obsidian updated and ready to go because it's just beautiful and has lots of possibilities.Of course it took me learning them together to decide on LogSeq even before I knew why I ended up with LogSeq. I still also really like and @pkm @pkm @pkm

does anyone use , or at least trust it?

it seems pretty neat, if not a bit complicated (never been into notion style notes), wouldn't mind recommending it to people who like fancy interfaces I guess

I mean, it is open source and promises to be offline first and encrypted and all, but having it use their sync servers by default when you start the app and not having the data in a plain to read format is a bit eehhhh compared to even obsidian

warrows, to Notion

I'm looking for a todo application, similar to Todoist or TickTick that has a Linux app and an iOS app, syncs between them and isn't horrible.

Don't talk to me about Obsidian or notion, not great for todos. Tried Any.do, but it too is not great and has no Linux app. I can live with a web app, but I don't want to.

AnyType allows me to keep a list of movies I want to watch and create various views based on different criteria such as movie language ... but it's hard to automate adding data to AnyType. Easiest way is to type it all in manually.

My own app lets me do things as I wish and I can automate movie information retrieval easily from say IMDB, but it is task-specific and I can't easily store (or rather, store in an organised fashion) movie information side-by-side with say, book info, or a comic book collection.

Can I find a middle ground?
