Earlier, our boss almost had to carry us out of the museum. We completely forgot about the closing time. Or as one of my colleagues commented: ‘This has simply become our second home!’ 1/2

If you think react is complicated now, go back to 2015 when you had to configure babel and webpack yourself, you had to do SSR and routing yourself, you had to decide between flow and typescript, you had to learn flux and immutable.js, and you had to choose 1 of 100 boilerplates

Wow. It looks like the Hugo awards are all sorts of pear-shaped this year. Babel wasn't even considered and the voting seems clearly jacked up across the board. I have suspicions about what happened, but I'm looking forward to someone smarter than me and with more information to explain things.

This was a good read: “WHY THE PAST 10 YEARS OF AMERICAN LIFE HAVE BEEN UNIQUELY STUPID”

From The Atlantic:
https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2022/05/social-media-democracy-trust-babel/629369/

If you don’t subscribe, there is a library version here (34 page pdf): https://www.tcatitans.org/cms/lib/CO50010872/Centricity//Domain/63/Haidt%20-%202022%20-%20Why%20the%20Past%2010%20Years%20of%20American%20Life%20Have%20Been%20Uniquely%20Stupid%20-%20The%20Atlantic.pdf

Near end of article, some ideas on how #SocialMedia could be regulated to slow the spread of #misinformation.

The most frustrating part of my current struggle to update support in is that it would be literally 3 lines of code to fix it if only it were possible for me to add <script> tags to the file served. I'm adding code that should only render on client side (it's exclusively presentation) and points to a CDN so browser caching means it's very limited bandwidth.

But no. I'm stuck messing with weird configurations for , trying to figure out how the package manager pnpm works, identifying what is eating, translating tutorials from EMCA5 to 6, and how to use to precompile the Prism library with the right settings.

Every technology in that stack allegedly is supposed to improve . They're all supposed to make my life easier by reducing complexity and streamlining effort. But they have turned a 3 line fix into hundreds spread across a dozen files.

Oh well, this is how modern software development works, isn't it?

About halfway through R.F. Kuang's "Babel" and I think I chose the best book to get back into my reading habits. The writing style is accessible, the setting and atmosphere are gripping, and the themes are relevant.

The folks I see over there still posting are looking for popularity or wanting to be an influencer/celebrity, so I suspect they're going to head to Tiktok/Instagram/Threads.

Had a real bizarre issue today learning to use literate programming for a shell script in . One command I was using was making it so any output following it would never get output to the results block. I did discover finally after very much head bashing, that if I used an async shared session that I could at least access a variable containing the output in the next code block. I wish I knew what was going on, but at least I am making progress!
