Just took another look at #Firefish, which used to be #Calckey, and it looks like the #accessibility has gotten much better since the last time I looked. I think I'm going to create a new account there and play with it a little bit. I can't handle too many accounts though, so if I like it, I may move over there. #a11y#blind#fediverse
I have a #Firefish account now, but I won't be posting there. I'm just going to watch what happens for now. I like a lot of what it has to offer, but there are still a few #accessibility things I'd like to see improved before I jump over. It looks like they're working on things, so hopefully they'll improve.
Hi all, just kicking the tires here ... I wanted to give #firefish a try after the rebranding from #CalcKey and subsequent updates but definitely didn't want to jump onto an "official instance" ;)
I've been active on the #fediverse since 2018 and loving life outside of the corporate walled gardens.
Quick question, what mobile apps do you all prefer for #firefish on android? Win Desktop?
@csolisr
I'm not sure why this would be wanted. The impression I got was that the decision to fork had to do with different project visions, more than the language barrier.
@michael so it's worth noting that Firefish has a Mastodon API emulation layer and the search endpoint works fine. my experience with base Calckey's Mastodon API is… use Firefish or Iceshrimp.
@vyr yeah, one of the weird things about it, is that it doesn’t return a 429 when a rate limit is hit, so you can’t actually do anything about the rate limit 🤔
Are there any #fediverse platforms that don't compress or others ruin image uploads? #mastodon reduces many images to under 2000 pixels in either direction, usually in the 1600-1800 range from what I've seen.
@entropealabs I've checked out #pixelfed, but from what I've seen images are also tampered with on there as well. Do you have any examples of images above 2k resolution from a pixelfed instance?
Does anyone know of lightweight web frontends for #Calckey or #Firefish or whatever they're calling themselves now? Kinda like #Pinafore for #Mastodon. It just feels so atrociously heavy here on Firefox Android.
I gotta admit, Misskey is kinda fun and fresh compared to the Calckey stuff. I feel like #calckey / #firefish / #iceshrimp / whatever else forks all kinda went more for a focused, simple, English-language software while Misskey wanted to be different and have a little fun, not worrying about the people who say "THIS IS BLOATTTTT AAAAA"
they have shown a tremendous amount of disrespect and falsehood, eventually even daring to publicly attack me with false accusations, only to limit my acc on stop.voring.me to the home timeline without further note > when this happened some months ago, i was laughing because it felt like kindergarten edition of fedi drama
what is worse: back then, t1c threw overboard the principle not to federate with government-run instances, and t1c declared zero interest in the rise of fascism in germany, thereby giving leeway to apologetic posts on their instance calckey.social (now firefish.social)
when i started donating, i felt both happy and proud to support a small fediverse project which had managed to attract contributors and creators from all over the world > when i learned that t1c would occasionally face problems receiving donations in currencies other than usd, i ensured to donate in usd btw
i have felt for quite some time that the calckey/firefish community is not the right place for me, and i am saddened by the direction which the calckey/firefish project has taken #fediverse#calckey#firefish
