My expectation: will replace most other low level languages for relatively low level use cases. For example platform libraries, kernels, OS components, like services etc.
But I also think that a lot of these projects (especially platform libraries) care about that they won't just be able to be used by other Rust code.
Also my expectation: For a lot of these projects, will replace , because it just supports more features, and makes integration into an existing system easier.

It's hard to find add-ons. crates.io has very poor search options.

For example, I recall one which I think began with 'b' which sits in the terminal running the build and shows errors in order, unlike cargo build where they scoll off screen and out of view. [EDIT: from replies it is called 'bacon']

But I can't list search results by name, only things like newest etc.

it occurred to me that one way to move some trailer weight around might be to put it on the cargo rack with a bungee cord

loop it around so there’s down force on the far side

seems to work

The issue I had with slow builds seems to have been because of a disk caching issue. I simply ran;
sudo /sbin/sysctl -w vm.drop_caches=3
and now everything's fine!

OK ClamAV On Access Scanning was also to blame, it was set to scan /tmp and /var/tmp which explains why dumping the cache helped. For some reason, a package was having problems getting past ClamAV.

#RustLang / #Cargo builds seem to run very slow on my #Framework AMD system. They didn't take anywhere near as long on my old Intel system. Looking at btop it only seems to use one thread during #compile, am I missing something?

Wanting to play with servo has turned out to be a bit harder than I expected. Even cloning the repo doesn't work over my 4G b/b and building... well 😱

Still I persist! Now rsync'ing vendored repos and dependencies from a cloud instance and hoping it will work offline. 🙏

Is there a crate that allows me to query package metadata from either .io or preferably the local package index easily? My usual search strings didn't reveal anything useful. Use case is that I want to filter crates in my dependency tree by specific categories that can be found in the metadata. Of course it would probably be easy to implement that functionality by myself, but if somebody else already did that, why not reuse it…

Cargo cache cleaning, https://blog.rust-lang.org/2023/12/11/cargo-cache-cleaning.html.

Cargo is introducing a garbage-collector for the artefact files. The goal is to help clean up the unused old files to save storage space automatically.

Quite nice!
