If you like your real cider then get along to Grumpy John's (no relation) Cider Festival this Saturday, 5th August in Shipley. He's got a daft number of real ciders from around the UK available as well as his own.

My band Robber John also happen to be playing a set at 7pm.

Interesting video here on alcohol in medieval England. It takes a look at what people drank and the difference between taverns, inns and alehouses.

Cider is pretty great if you're an Apple Music subscriber. I'm giving Apple Music a month to impress me.

I'm either going with Apple music or back to Spotify. I want a Linux client and Deezer's is shite. Sad because Deezer is a little cheaper, but I'm done trying to kid myself and think I'm going to organize my local music. So I need a client.

kristophr,

@thelinuxcast I just signed up for apple music - I have some great lo-fi chill playlists that I love- glad to see its supported in Linux. Will give an install and chance.

Capitalism, as a system, doesn't do well in anticipating problems or at preparing for crises. That's not how it works.

The only goal of capitalism is creating profits for capitalists, thereby increasing their capital. Short-term, immediate gains. That's all that matters.

So, when the things you expect to find at the store suddenly begin disappearing off the shelves, and no one has an answer for when they'll be back, now you'll know why.

30 years ago the demand for was in steep decline here in the UK. The big commercial cider makers paid farmers to grub out their and turn them over to other forms of agriculture.

Now "cider" is booming as a cheap drink. The "apple juice" feedstock is imported from China and gods only know what the apples are like and what is done to the juice/cider. Cider makers in the UK are paying farmers to plant orchards again.

Some of the orchards that were grubbed out were hundreds of years old as were the trees growing in them. They contained rare varieties of found nowhere else in the world that gave the cider real flavour and were naturally disease resistant. Old orchards were havens for of all kinds. New orchards tend to be deserts of grass with a limited number of varieties of apple trees plonked in them and sprayed with multiple times per year.

One of the best cider makers in England, Julian Temperly, of Burrow Hill Cider, coincidently just down the road from where I grew up and lived most of my life, was trying to get an EU law passed to say that if you wanted to call your product cider it had to be 99.5% apple juice. Sadly Brexit put an end to it.

what are you going to do?

Also, @georgetakei is there, too; which also really sucks in this sense (see my thoughts on the Japanese-American Internment).

I am not asking anyone to move for my Preferences. But, it would be Really Cool if a of or had the ability to a but add exceptions. If this exists, then I do not know about it. Anyone?

Thank you!!

Hood River’s revamped the look for its line of this year, one that is inspired by matchbook designs from the 1940s and 1950s according to the press release. Along with the new designs, the brewery slated six ciders for release this year, and sent me three to review.

Seems that has made some breaking changes in how was connecting to Apple Music. So now the best app available for to use Apple Music is broken.
Here's hoping that the Cider team finds a way to work against the changes. I love my Cider.

@denzilferreira I've had an odd relationship with the web player on Linux. It randomly lowers the volume on either the left or right channel. Sometimes it even mutes one and there is nothing I can do to fix it. That's why I was so happy when I found because it works 100% on

@denzilferreira Not sure, they released a new version yesterday to fix this login issue with Apple, but I can't for the life of me run it on Arch. Both the downloaded .AppImage and my own compiled .AppImage run long enough to open the actual app.
I'll see tomorrow if there is any change.
