“I just thought, ‘I’m done’”: Steve Vai reflects on how “brutal” experience with Frank Zappa nearly made him give up on touring
With a manic touring schedule, a new setlist every night and sometimes two shows in one day, Frank Zappa pushed Steve Vai to his limits.
My dad was an avid Frank Zappa listener. I remember one time, when I was in my twenties, I told him it was really weird music and went to listen to The Offspring and Green Day. He said to me at the time: "You'll grow into it one day".
Twenty years have passed and I enjoy listening to Frank's albums as well. The dad was right. 🙂
My brain decided I needed an especially chaotic earworm, and so this ditty has been stuck on my mental soundtrack for the past three days. Early Frank is some of the wildest Frank. 💖

#FrankZappa's switch to some sort of jazzfusion. Complex time signatures, awesome soloing, brass, modular moog, #guitar, hallucinations, other weird stuff: another most enjoyable #Zappa album.
A droll little bit of conversation about creative usage of vegetable emojis inspired my brain to pop this old favorite onto today's Mental Soundtrack. After all, if you call any vegetable, the chances are good the vegetable will respond to you. At least, according to Frank. 🍆 🧄 🎃 🤣
On my mental soundtrack today, because the sweet young medical professional who I consulted with the other day had never heard of Frank Zappa, let alone his classic musical rant about woowoo-purveyors, making me feel even more of a geezer than my CrankyBod was doing. 🤣
