A less well known viewpoint on the Lynn Peak route, looking towards the Grouse range. Appropriate as the deep booming sound of the reminded me I was but a visitor to its terrain. The rocks I was sitting on were scarred by glacier induced striations, which was impressive as they're at 900+m altitude.

Just got back from my first trip of the year and it did not disappoint! Set up base camp partway up a mountain next to a , then summited the mountain the next day. Returned to camp for the night before heading back home. With the rainy conditions, people stayed away-- I didn't encounter a single person in two of the three days-- had the summit to myself! White , .

The ice is formed from the snow being packed down from many hikers which causes it to turn into ice. This icy section was close to the summit. At lower elevations, the trail was completely free of snow and ice. Bondcliff trail.

It’s beautiful to see how a few days of rain can turn a dried out creek into a small river with ​s.

The water searches its way down small waterfallls.
The biggest waterfall in the area. It dries out more and more often.

McKenzie River Trail: Part 1

I’m hanging out at the famous Blue Pool this morning eating lunch and drying out my tent. It rained a bit while I slept but was only misting by the time I was packing up. I’ve already covered a large portion of the trail last night and this morning. This trail is a gem, I love it out here. I believe the waterfall corridor is next. Just a quick post, more photos to come.

McKenzie River Trail: Part 2

I tagged the end of the trail this morning. Incredible trail. No one told me I would be hiking on a lava bed at the edge of a beautiful lake. I’m currently in the snow attempting a summit of Sand Mountain to see the views.

Clear Lake. The pretty blue lake shimmers in the sun. A building sits on the far shore with a huge forest behind. Two snow covered mountains in the distance.
Blue Pool. Beautiful pool of turquoise blue water that turns back into the McKenzie River on the far side. Lava rock protects the right side of the pool with tall green trees on the left.
A paved path traverses a lava bed on the edge of a lake. A forest of tall green trees fill the far lake shore. Lava rock with green shrubs cover the immediate shores.

We took yesterday off to decompress and celebrate Gypsy's long life with a hike at Banning State Park, a place we'd not had a chance to visit in a while.

While we miss Gypsy greatly, it is nice to return to hiking with one dog each, at a pace where we can all keep together...

A husky with wolfish markings, the same as the lead dog in the previous photo, leads the same hiker with floppy hat, field vest and hiking staff towards the viewer on a sandy dirty trail along the edge of a rocky slope. Sandstone cliffs rise above them with a dark, shadowy overhang over the trail and the rock above cut in wide curving arcs from ancient glacial activity. Several evergreen tree trunks have fallen at dramatic angles over the trail.
A fluffy husky leads the viewer down a steep slope between dark sandstone rocks, a narrow cleft that cures left, then right, the walls cut in sweeping arcs from glacial melt activity aeons ago.
Zeena, the same husky from the previous photo, stands on the edge of a dark river with a bit of foam at the edge. There are large rocks in the river, with one wide flat stone topped with spindly evergreen trees. The far shore has a mix of trees in various shades of green as spring foliage fills in.

What are your recommendations for a comfortable 3-season sleeping pad for a long and relatively heavy (≈92 kg) side sleeping person?

It should be lightweight, but not necessarily ultra-lightweight. I do care about durability.
