On this International Woman's Day, I would like to shout out into the void some thoughts about my wife of 35 years.
She is the type of woman who is not often recognized but should be; not appreciated enough when she gives everything to her all; not cheered enough when her efforts demand a standing ovation.
I know one thing - without her backing, support, encouragement, and love, I would NEVER have enjoyed the success I have had.
We have worked together in a home office for 30 years. That alone says it all.
She has edited my books, managed my contracts, organized my calendar, helped me with my research, loved me unequivocally, and has never let me down. She has managed the complexities of a demanding speaking career, a husband who has tried his best to manage the rigors of the road, and who is always jumping with a far-too-busy-mind into the next project.
A professional CPA, she was on track to a global career in Unilever/Thomas J. Lipton - she was Manager of Tax, Controller, and other functions. Previously with Deloitte, she met me when I was with a predecessor firm of KPMG. She had career goals, aspirations, and big goals and plans
And then, we got married and had two delightful children (now young men of 28 and 30). When my books and speaking career took off, the two of us knew we had a choice - I could find an office and hire staff, or she could quit her job, and help me out.

My wife is amazing. Not many people will know this because she isn't famous. She was a nurse, specialising in mental health. Then the terrible, debilitating condition of fibromyalgia caused her to cut hours and eventually stop working. Even though she has constant pain, it hasn't stopped her from living life as fully as she can. She is my best friend and a true inspiration. She is one of billions of ordinary people not given the respect that she deserves.
This is possibly a unique surviving example of a 17thC signature of a #Gaelic Irishwoman. (The letter is now in UCD archives part of the Franciscan collection)

✨ Happy #InternationalWomensDay2024 to all the brave, strong women 💪🏾 out there, standing up for yourselves, standing up for your communities, and standing up for each other ✨
It is soon International Women’s Rights Day. To mark the occasion, I would like all men who are thinking of writing something on social media to praise a woman to make sure that this woman is 1) alive and 2) not someone you are related to.
I especially do not want to hear that you found out women are people too when you got a daughter, or that you admire women because you have a mother.
