I've just published the roadmap project for the Jellyfin Android TV app! It will slowly get bigger over time while I figure out how exactly I want it to be organized.

The priority for now is to keep working on better video support though!

/ Q: I've been having an issue all this while I haven't quite been able to tackle. How do I properly mount a // share in a container on Kubernetes?

I definitely don't want a method that does any "pass through" outside of the container such as mounting said share on the Kubernetes node then passing it to the container, since that seems quite hacky and the deployment/pod could easily be reassigned to a different node.

Is it possible, surely it is?

irfan,

Update: I've found #csi-driver-smb which seems to be perfect for my needs, and even a video of someone deploying it to their cluster for #Jellyfin.

I've deployed it successfully to my #Kubernetes cluster pretty easily, and am attempting to achieve the same thing but on #Plex rather than Jellyfin. Ran into another obstacle tho, while it seems that my #TrueNAS #SMB share is mounted to the container (shows up in df -h), my root user in the container could not ls the mount point (i.e. /mnt/smb), it'd just return the Permission denied error. Weird thing is the root user could cd into the mount point and its existing subdirectories, but not ls them or write any files to them. I could cat files inside it though, funnily enough.

the PV for said PVC has mounting options included in csi-driver-smb's example including dir_mode=0777, and file_mode=0777, with minor changes such as uid=1001 and gid=1001 I've updated them to 0, which is the uid and gid of the root user. I've even tried updating them to 1000 which is the id of the user plex, but still with the same results.

Anyone have any clue why I'm getting the permission denied error?

Stupid question: I need to find a way to ensure that a network share is mounted at ALL times, even after a reboot. Why. My server loves to punish me and wipe my libraries because specific mounts are not mounted. A simple "sudo mount -a" and a Scan All Libraries fixes the problem but it's still annoying when I install updates and reboot.

Any thoughts on this one?

I kind of love that just has an instance running, linked to from their home page, that you can just log into (using 'demo' with no password), to try it out and see it working.

Ideas for setting up a media server compatible with xbox viewing?

I have a TCL tv with (with google smart TV software) and have been ingesting TV shows, games, and movies primarily from an xbox using various paid streaming apps for like 15 years. As streaming costs go up I’ve wanted to set up a media server compatible with playing stuff from the xbox and have had some friends suggest Plex so...

Sick of the sites raising prices and adding... ads? Annoyed that doesn't pay the artists you listen to?

Now there is - a and media server that allows you to turn your personal movie, TV show and music collection into an available-anywhere streaming service!

It works on the web, as well as having official apps for , , , etc.

Do I have 4 different browser running at the same time? Why yes I do. Firefox as a personal main, Safari for work, Edge for study (Azure certs), and I'm testing out Arc. I also bring up Vivaldi from time to time.

Thank goodness I bought my MBA M1 with 16GB RAM!

teamtuck,

@ladyhope I store TV shows, movies, games, books and software, so I need the space. We are daily users and I’m a fan of having physical and digital copies of media I enjoy.

Vision Pro came out today. I'm excited to eventually have something similar to this, specifically for media consumption. I want to have a virtual theater with a massive "screen", able to block out the world, put in AirPods, and enjoy some or . Don't really care about using my laptop screen virtually, nor am I worried about taking video or how my eyes look to others in the room. Give me just something around $500 that I can consume media and I'll buy into it.

I haven't talked about in a while, as things have become pretty busy for me. Feeling good about it in the current state as a v1.0. I'm pivoting from code over into the physical enclosure.

One thing to reflect on is that I honestly wish that I would have gone with a x86-64 mini PC over the Pi. The Pi is capable, but for the same cost, I could have went with a known working arch. and more "tried and true" variation of OS, and libraries. Bad luck with ARM leaves a bad taste

teamtuck,

@Dave42W It's essentially an offline-first TV station you can take on the go. All media is programmed into TV channels, some with commercials, and you can surf with a TV remote! We got tired of going on a trip with poor Internet service and couldn't access at home, so I made something we can take along with us so we will have something to watch.

Adding the movie/series logo to the OSD in on

Also added season and episode numbers under the title.

Looks pretty sharp I think.

me Fediverse; you’re my only hope. Trying to archive DVD using for use on . Using standard Fast 1080p30 but subtitles not appearing. Only need the subtitles where audio is non-English. The “Foreign Audio Scan” option was included in Subtitles tab. Container is MP4. What am I missing?

Found a “spare” streaming stick in the attic that has dual band wireless and it has fixed my issue.

Lesson learned: the cheapest thing isn’t always the best thing.

Not sure if I will buy another Roku device as I’d rather have an Apple TV but if I do, I’m getting the Ultra model just to have the Ethernet option.

Going to give a shot again. has been so buggy for me lately.

I have 1 in the bedroom that is getting terrible performance with all of a sudden. I can’t stream 1080p media but 480p barely works. WiFi shows good experience/signal, and all other devices in the house work perfectly; I can’t figure out what’s wrong.

Debating on doing a full reset and starting it over from scratch. Wish I could find a used Apple TV with Ethernet….

teamtuck,

Did a factory reset and things seem to be better. I did a network test on the Roku and it was getting 3-4Mbps, granted it's 2.4Ghz band only. After the reset, I'm up to 13Mbps and seems to act better.

I compared the screen reader of , , and , and sadly Plex is way ahead of both Jellyfin and Emby. Not surprising that both are below average because Emby is really just a fork of Jellyfin, but regardless, I guess I'll be sticking with Plex for the foreseeable future.

Back to the grind today. Besides normal work crap, I’m studying for the SC-300. Also, I’m testing to see why is having a hard time transcoding files lately all of a sudden.

Uninstalling for the final time. Tried my best to like it, alongside , but it's just so horrible-looking, dysfunctional with absolutely no incentive for me to switch. The client apps for it look abysmal by comparison with Plex (and no, I'm not even using Plex Pass, just the free version) The AppleTV app in particular is janky as hell, the poster icons mode for shows literally overlap the titles of each show like the CSS is broken or something. Plex client is easy to install and set up, good looking and simply works.

Online, it appears that people have zero legitimate reasons for switching, apart from disliking Plex for some nebulous "people are feeling that Plex is moving away from self hosted media to streaming services" reason - https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/126q8di/is_jellyfin_really_so_much_better_than_plex/ - I'm self-hosting it and it works perfectly.

Far as I'm concerned, IF and when that happens I'll reconsider. For right now it's way more polished than JF and simply works better for this household and its five TVs.

NitP,

@dhrystone There are a number of reasons people are annoyed

Activity sharing, which was inexplicably opt out. (may have changed) you couldn’t authenticate without web access. Addition of games?! Streaming moved away from the core of what the user base wanted.

I’ve self hosted for years. Started with XBMC/Kodi, PleXBMC, Plex, Emby and now I’m happy with .

But if Plex works perfectly for you, I’ve no idea why you’re so keen on switching anyway. Perfect software is rare.
