Dozens of people have been killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza, including journalist Bahaa Okasha, who died with his wife and son in an attack in the Jabalia refugee camp.

October 2023 – Wael Dahdouh’s wife, son, daughter and grandson were killed in an Israeli attack on a building they were sheltering in.

Al Jazeera’s Gaza correspondent, Wael Dahdouh, lost his wife Amneh, 15-year-old son Mohammed, seven-year-old daughter Sham and his one-year-old grandson Adam in an Israeli air raid on October 25. In January, he lost his son, 27-year-old Hamza.

Israel's parliament last month ratified a #law allowing the temporary closure in #Israel of foreign broadcasters considered to be a threat to #NationalSecurity.
"The background of this (shutdown) decision is not professional or journalistic ... it's #political," said Waleed Omari, bureau chief of #AlJazeera in #Israel & the #Palestinian territories.
The station was preparing a #legal response, he said.
Despite Israel's restrictions on international journalists entering #Gaza, Palestinian journalists have bravely covered the ongoing genocide, risking their lives in the process.

@appassionato@palestine I still grive for that wonderful woman, #ShireenAbuAhkleh - murdered by an #Israeli sniper who has never been held accountable. Yet #Israel knows who it was. Even sadder is that hundreds more journalists have been murdered by #IDF since - many in the recent attack on Gaza. Still, not one Israeli soldier has been charged for any of these hundreds of murders - not one.

Across the world & even here in Britain, there are journalists braving bullying, economic sanctions, libel cases, deaths threats & actual fatalities to reveal to us what is going on in the world.
Without them, the plight of democracy would be even worse than it is.
