“The Kansas Reflector published an artical about Meta censoring environmental articles about climate change — deeming them ‘too controversial’.

Facebook then censored the article about Facebook censorship, and then after an independent site published a copy of the climate change article, Facebook censored it too.”

Can someone please ask the CEO of Mastodon gGmbH to defederate with Threads? I used to know Eugen who ran the instance and could have asked him myself but I don’t know the CEO of Mastodon gGmbH.

Operating •and• developing Mastodon on this budget is nothing short of amazing.

It’s also unsustainable and we should make sure we don’t just pay for our third party Mastodon clients but donate to the core project.

Good grief

With all due respect, I'm pretty sure the "core project" is doing quite well, as evidenced by the screenshot you attach, where we see Gargron with a ('M' for monthly, is it?) monthly enumeration of EUR 3000

How many of the roughly 12,100 --> other <-- instances pay their lead admins --> anything <-- per month?

and are doing just fine

It's every other Mastodon instance in the we all should be concerned about

In the midst of Twitter's turmoil, Mastodon saw a 488% surge in donations in 2022 and garnered 1.8M active users monthly.

Note: Donations made to Mastodon don't necessarily support the individual Mastodon server you utilize. Please consider supporting your local Mastodon server.server. Even with just $1/mo

Glad to see someone bringing this up

The table "Renumeration" shows Gargron drawing down -- what? per month? -- EUR 3000 M

and are doing just fine, just fine indeed

It's the other =- 12,000 Mastodon instances that need our attention

Why does searching for lemmy content on mastodon.social, such as a search for @lemmy@lemmy.ml or @liaizon@wake.st/110530316373516739, produce zero results? Some of the content is accessible through this instance, e.g. https://mastodon.social/@liaizon@wake.st/110530316373516739, it's just not findable with search, and some of it redirects when accessed in that way.

Welcome in, o dismayed souls, to a slightly kinder version of social media. A version not controlled by corporations, or even medium businesses (unless they have their own instance for their employees...like journalists.)

You've probably made your first account on - and, hey, that's a way to get started! But after a few months - or a few days if you're feeling particularly adventurous - you may want to move to a less-populated server.
