In the official Mastodon web client, under Preferences > Other > PUBLIC TIMELINES > Filter languages I selected only English and Italian. So why do I get toots also in other languages in my timelines?

Took me some hunting to look up the exact word, but this seems a close relative of the rhetorical gambit of "apophasis" wherein one brings up a topic but insists it shouldn't be brought up

"As a rhetorical device, it can serve various purposes, often dependent on the relationship of the speaker to the addressee and the extent of their shared knowledge. Apophasis is rarely literal; instead, it conveys meaning through implications that may depend on this context."

You see a lot of this hidden behind the phrases "many people are saying" or "just asking questions" which Trump uses a lot

There cannot be any objective foundation to any issue, that everything is subject to momentary, subjective definitions

There is no truth

Only what is said in the moment, which can be reversed 180 degrees moments later, at need

This aberration was created by a Republican party which has been a party of demonstrated, confirmed, pathological, serial liars for decades, aided and abetted by a credulous press driven to harvest clicks and likes

    Trump has been charged with a lot of crimes, so just as a reminder: This case is focused on his actions prior to the 2016 election, namely Trump’s alleged arrangement of hush money paid to Stormy Daniels. The New York indictment mainly focused on falsification of business records and campaign finance violations.

    Mastodon.social should already be heavily limiting nudity or pornography on its instance due to German youth protection law, which mandates age verification systems to prevent kids from accessing adult content.

    But they are taking a legal risk there and ignoring this law.

    Always hide everything so that Gargron doesn't have to address the presence of very hard-core, full contact homosexual, non-CWd pornography on @Mastodon

    OK: it's a small minority (not redundant) of the overall posts, but why do I need to hide everything everywhere to cover the very few times I browse the /public/ feed on my instance?

    I keep reporting the porn to MastoSoc and nothing perceivable happens

    If I want porn (which I don't) I'll go to PornHub (which I won't)

    Okay, here me out, but I totally think there's a possibility to setup a Fediverse server that you "follow", and then you'd have ads boosted into your timeline, and then revenue from the advertising would be distributed based on number of actors following for ads, a portion would go to your instance, and some would go to the software your instance runs.

    This would give consent-based advertising that's native to ActivityPub and opt-in by users.

    Wouldn't it? Or is this an absolutely silly idea?
