In this installment of What Color Is My Turkey Tail, we have at least 8 distinct colors including chestnut brown, seaweed green, some sidewalk gray, and a pleasing splash of steel blue.
Split Gills [Schizophyllum commune] are one of those mushrooms that, like Turkey Tail, can be dismissed as dreadfully boring. BUT, then you see a fruiting like this and you’re reminded of seashells and wildflowers.
According to folk lore, King Alfred (having disguised himself as a common soldier) hid out in a countryside homestead during war, and was put in charge of removing baking from the oven when it was done. He fell asleep and the cakes burned.
The weather doesn't seem to want to commit itself, sometimes sunshine, shortly afterwards it looks like rain. Did I say Rain? These umbrellas fit the bill perfectly! Here is the saffron umbrella mushroom clorophyllum olivieri, a popular #mushroom, but with a drawback: for the inexperienced it is difficult to distinguish from its highly poisonous twin.
As it’s #MushroomMonday again, I’d like to share another image of mushrooms from my holiday last week. I went to the national park Bayerischer Wald in eastern #Bavaria and visited the treetop trail near Neuschönau. Below is a really huge wildlife animal park with animals native to Europe (bears, lynx, wolves, wisents, deers, elks etc.).
The park itself is one of the biggest beech forests in Germany, its deadwood home to many fungi.
