Happened to be near a Best Buy that had a reMarkable 2 on display, and it seems nice, but do I need this? It seems like it would have been absolutely amazing for university when we ahem obtained pdf textbooks and this would have allowed me to carry all of them and annotate them.
I don’t know what I’d actually do with it. But I love the aesthetics of it and handwriting notes is a big part of how I do things when I function - so maybe it would be really awesome?

My initial dismissal of the Kindle Scribe is fading away with every passing day of use.

Yes, it’s still mostly a (excellent) reader with some note-taking (far better than expected) capabilities, but it is very convenient and it serves the purpose I wanted from it - focus on learning in a distraction-free way.

I’m still testing it, but it looks like I may keep it.

Awesome news!

's Reader just released a new version on and with paged scrolling. Meaning, it's no longer just endless scrolling, but you can use the physical buttons and/or tap to scroll page by page.

This is especially useful for devices, such as my Leaf 2! Don't forget to enable reduced animations for an even better experience!

@darkcisum Are you happy with how Reader works on your ?

Thinking of getting a as my is both a bit too big for casual reading and has absolutely no integration with Readwise Reader

I just discovered a nasty thing about #remarkable2 with which I had otherwise been pretty happy with since I purchased one secondhand 4 months ago.

Without the paying “connect” subscription, syncing stops after 50 days of inactivity.

New activity doesn’t trigger syncing, but the document remains usable still.

The #workaround is to duplicate it. But it’s just a lot of busy work. #meh

So after a bit of research, there's the , the and the "Paper".

I had a look at the first two, but they do not strike me as a "this is it".

The Huawei one might be an option, but I did not look close enough yet.

I definitely want to be able to sync with either or so having a real android would be nice. But none of those offers that.

PSA: is about to start \o/

I am looking forward to doing artwork in ink everyday of October, following a list of prompts.

I have not quite made up my mind if this year I’m doing it in e-ink on a or continue in my postcard sized artbook as I’ve done for the past 7 years.

I will post here every day, regardless.

Here’s the list of prompts for

I’ve had a e-ink tablet for a week (second-hand from the good @nicosomb who sold it to me)

I use it all day long, every day, as a companion to my computer. It’s much better than filling up paper books which make it hard to retrieve previous notes in a timely manner or at all.

I can share my notes (converted to typed text or not), re-use parts of them elsewhere, copy & paste, scale, rotate, I can type, or draw.

It lacks straight lines and shapes though! But it fosters creativity.

@koalie I was previously unaware of the and now I’m very tempted to.

@ndw I was totally aware of it (and other e-ink products generally) but had not considered it for myself (until a friend sold his) because I already own an iPad and I thought it would be a waste of coin/material and frivolous.

BUT, it's not. It's really convenient and quite portable too (but works only in daylight of course).

Directories (including nested sub-directories) and labels make it a useful and versatile "pensieve".

The marketing argument "distraction free" is also true.

Any remarks on or alternatives? I still enjoy hand-writing notes a lot, but they get lost easily.

Remarkable has some history of removing features and replacing them with "subscriptions" after the buy. I'd love to hear from owners.

svw,

@louis I have had one before the subscription model, so I can't comment on that, but from a usability perspective, I love my

@publicvoit has some reasonable arguments against it. Here's a few comments I wrote on it previously...

Anyone here got a #remarkable2 and want to convince me - one way or the other - whether to take the plunge?

I like reading on #eink - but I crave a bigger screen. I don't handwrite if I can help it.
Perhaps there's a bigger read-only device I should consider?

@rmateu@social.lol avatar

@Edent for reading makes sense if you use the notebook features imho. Even then, I mostly reach out to my Boox Leaf2 and iPad for reading.

Kindle Scribe sounds like a better option for you.

Question/ help request
Is there a way for someone using to see where an (A4, if relevant) prortrait page ends while writing in landscape mode?

I recently got a used tablet and am absolutely loving it.

The case it came with is pretty meh. I went looking on amazon and saw just cheesy-ass "business professional" looking leather cases and thought "I could make something better than that!" And now I'm wondering if i should really bother going down this rabbit hole or just spend $30 on an "ok" looking non-leather case.

Had a bit more of a play with the colour e-ink reader/tablet and starting to really like it. I put a more advanced sketch app on there and it's like having a magic sheet of paper, works so well with the stylus and fingers to scroll/rotate, which is nothing special on an iPad but this is on E Ink. Quite amazing.

I'm no artist but just like everyone who had DPaint on the Amiga I'm just having fun doing stupid doodles. Great for my lock screen :)
