SCALE. Is it micro or macro? Recurring patterns at radically different scales, courtesy of NASA. https://chandra.si.edu/micro/

(It strikes me that a bigger study of multiscale pattern equivalence would turn up some important principles of system interaction dynamics.)

@Vivaldi Bug report:

  • OS: Fedora Linux 40.20240424.0 (Silverblue) x86_64
  • DE: GNOME 46.1 (Wayland)

After signing in after sleep, Vivaldi renders at @1x even though my screen is set to @2x.

(Moving the window around or resizing it, etc., re-renders it at the correct resolution.)

@aral Installed from flatpak, I presume? I will update it shortly. That might improve things.

@ruario I believe so. Will check and update you next I’m at my desk :)

Segfault when running the apt module to remove wifi and Bluetooth related packages on my raspberry pi. But no problem using the equivalent apt commands. That's weird.

Anyway, this raspberry pi ("pilote") needs to be upgraded (Debian 10 to 12). A perfect time to install it from scratch and use Ansible.

As promised in my talk at , I've done a big refacto of this repository to publish it on github. Soon™ 🤞🏻

@JenMsft Valid scale will ever be a possibility for Windows drives usages? Is it ever came up as an idea? Or just for a functional toggle button? I'm just created this mockup. Do you like it?

@iamdtms Do you use Reddit much? There were a bunch of posts this week with people sharing pictures of giant hard drives (competing for the biggest one)

@JenMsft It's not about that, it's about valid scale of data. Nevermind. ☹️

sf99,

@stevensanderson Nice and Clear example, Steve - thks!.

Q:
how to separate the car names in the plot, so they are more readable...?.

Right now, some name labels in the plot are "bunched" together,
on top of each other.
(Hard to read the name labels...).

sf99,

@stevensanderson
ok Steven!.

UPDATE:
I tried pos=4 (instead of pos =1)
and enlarged the plot size
in Rstudio:

Add text labels for car names (optional)

text(mds_results, labels = rownames(mtcars), col = "blue", cex = 0.62, pos = 4 )

and the blue car name labels are now really separated and readable in the plot...THANKS!

Ever struggle with features in your data overshadowing others due to different scales? Normalization can be your hero!

In R, there are ways to transform your data for a more even playing field. This post explores two popular methods:

  1. Z-score normalization
  2. Min-max scaling

@ted I've started storing them in KeePassXC for that reason. I'm not sure why I didn't think to do it sooner than a year or so ago. It was also nice that the SCaLE password was easy to remember this year.
