Never Criticize The Linux Foundation Expenses https://youtu.be/qhEKoZO6DM8

gabriel,

@BrodieOnLinux
I wholeheartedly agree with you on this (the message, not the title). It's why when I first wanted to donate to support Linux desktop I gave it to KDE cause I use/love KDE.
I wrote a post to encourage people to consider supporting projects they use.

I recorded a quick demo of the current state of the Wayland-native accessibility stack I'm developing for @gnome (and eventually other free desktops), code-named Newton. In the demo, I run the GNOME Podcasts app on the Newton accessibility stack, using my GTK branch that integrates AccessKit. So in principle, the same app should also work on Windows, and soon, macOS. The demo was featured in the latest edition of This Week in GNOME: https://thisweek.gnome.org/posts/2024/05/twig-148/ This work is funded by @sovtechfund.

New development policy: code generated by a large language model or similar technology (e.g. ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot) is presumed to be tainted (i.e. of unclear copyright, not fitting NetBSD's licensing goals) and cannot be committed to NetBSD.

This week's project: Reworking NVK cbuf support. We've had a lot of issues with too much internal stalling and I think a lot of them come down to the fact that we're re-binding cbufs every draw call.

My plan for root constants, is to do inline updates with the LOAD_CONSTANT_BUFFER command. I don't know how much of a difference there is but I strongly suspect this pipelines much better.

For bound cbufs, I'm planning to just make our dirty tracking way more competent.

We'll see how it goes!

@BrodieOnLinux I joked with @TheEvilSkeleton about making my own distro where the entire userland is just Flatpak.

Perhaps that's starting to become an idea....

Debian Users - Be aware the maintainer of the KeePassXC package for Debian has unilaterally decided to remove ALL features from it. You will need to switch to keepassxc-full to maintain capabilities once this lands outside of testing/sid.

I just installed COSMIC Desktop on Fedora 40. It works smoothly and is very fast. All apps open instantly with no glitches or hangs, and everything functions perfectly. Well Done, COSMIC team.

I wonder: If a project deliberately unilaterally abandons a specification, would it be reasonable to ignore their voice in subsequent change discussions to that particular specification, for changes that other projects want to make to it?

After all, by breaking the convention, there apparently is no longer any interest in collaboration and cross-desktop integration anyway...

It would suck though, it would make the Linux desktop poorer, inconsistent and app dev's lives harder.

Thanks to everyone in the community who has engaged in discussions and shared their concerns around the financial status of the @gnome Foundation! Based on feedback I've added some more detail to the Discourse thread. https://discourse.gnome.org/t/update-from-the-board/20653/5

Pro marketing tip: if you’re going to email me to see if I’m interested in covering your game - put a very clear link to the game in the email. More than once.

You wouldn’t believe the amount of emails I get that make it hard to see the link. Or don’t even include one at all! 🤦‍♂️

One day I will accept that I don't have enough years on this planet left to finish my backlog of video games, nevertheless any additional ones I might buy.
This was not a strong concern when I was a teenager.

If Fedora 40 had a headlining change, it might be @kde Plasma 6. The KDE SIG have brought over all the hard work from that community to give you a solid desktop experience from day 1.

We're also pushing technology forward by making this release Wayland-only, though X11 apps will still work!

Plasma 6 is also available for our Kinoite users. :kinoite:

So if I boost some sussy, unhinged shit, that does NOT mean I agree with OP

i.e lolicons being down bad, shit takes, etc.

I genuinely cannot believe I have to post this.

The Podcast Index has an ActivityPub implementation, and now I can follow some of my more irreverent non-techie podcasts directly on the fediverse. So cool! Hopefully they'll add a Follow button soon...but in the meantime:

  1. Find your podcast on the site
  2. Grab the numeric value at the end of the url
  3. Search for the podcast with this name {numericValue}@ap.podcastindex.org

https://podcastindex.org/

UNHhhh podcast, available through ActivityPub as an actor I can follow!

Sideloading is a term made up to make users afraid of having choice...

I'll probably dump it in both issue trackers but what do you guys think, pipewire crashes when I'm capturing my display with the kde portal and I change the output of my monitor, then try to change my volume level

Is it a pipewire bug or a kde bug?
