I'm calling out every Linux dev that uses i386 to mean i386, up to i686, stop it. Nobody besides Linux devs does this, its a stupid name for the group. Just call it x86 like everyone else

🤓 Um Aktualy, x86 also include 16 bit CPUs
No one cares they haven't existed since the 80s

I recorded a podcast with @BrodieOnLinux where we talked about Invidious, YouTube, adblockers, privacy... and everything in between (along with lots and lots of rambling)!

I feel like randomly promoting a really good free software project. That project is none other than SourceHut: https://sourcehut.org/ - and the main instance of it is here: https://sr.ht/

It's a very unique git forge in that it's predicated around use of a mailing list, but it has everything else you'd possibly want built right in, like CI, tickets, really good markdown parsing, and generally it's just very efficient.

Very lightweight forge, and it works without JavaScript turned on.

Mastodon supports actual real search now! This is great to find interesting people and content from all over, even when people don't tag posts. To be sure people can find your public posts, opt in (your server has to be on Mastodon 4.2 or higher).

⚙️Mastodon settings > "Public profile" > "Privacy and reach". (Don't forget to hit the save button on the bottom of the page!)

STOP SAVING DAYLIGHT

  • CLOCKS WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE CHANGED TWICE A YEAR

  • YEARS OF 'SAVING' yet NO NET GAIN OF DAYLIGHT

  • Sunset keeps getting earlier by a few minutes per day, which is sad but we can adjust to it, but then BAM we are all supposed to change the clocks so that it's suddenly A FULL HOUR EARLIER and it's PITCH DARK AFTER WORK what the hell.

"Hello I would like my saved daylight back please"

They have played us for absolute fools.

I chatted with @BrodieOnLinux on Tech Over Tea!

• My origin story
• Hubris of new designers (me!)
• Cloud gaming

is the secret cabal
• Importance of meeting people behind projects

Design
• Origins of elementary OS & Pop!_OS
• Spicy takes

…and a whole lot more! It was a blast, and I’m sure there’ll be shorter clips in the coming days if the two-hour runtime is daunting. 😅

The goal with recording sessions from Flock is for transparency and to create resources on what's going on in Fedora, so thanks for taking a look at them. :)

I’m gonna dip my toes into volunteering as a Flatpak/Flathub developer advocate—basically, providing a human contact at a real company that can help larger apps/companies get their apps in front of Linux (and thus Steam Deck!) users.

What are some of the biggest apps you think are missing from Flathub—or for apps already there, which are the ones you’d like to see verified?

cassidy,
@cassidy@blaede.family avatar

I'm happy to report that thanks in part to my efforts (but mostly thanks to TingPing doing tons of up-front work, feaneron's constant help, and employees using Linux internally):

:verified: Discord is now verified on Flathub

Next week on Aug 31 I will do my super long class: "Mastering the curl command line" live on Twitch, also recorded for later watching.

Expect 2.5 hours or so of non-stop command line talk. By me.

Just spent a couple of hours slicing up the first day of streams into individual videos, thanks to:

• A reminder from @BrodieOnLinux
• A super amazing YouTube commenter who provided timestamps as a starting point
• Parabolic to download the entirety of GUADEC 2023 talks in original quality and format, in one go
• Video Trimmer to losslessly trim the talks

And… it wasn’t too bad!

I don't think this is a hot take, but I think those big screens on the dashboards of cars are dumb. And I don't need Netflix capabilities on that thing. You know what I want in my car? Buttons. Actual buttons that aren't going to make me crash.

I don't need a freakin iPad duct taped to my console. That's dumb.

Sometimes we take technology too far.

@potato_lisper @BrodieOnLinux Emacs is the classic Tomb Raider of text editors. Controls are horrendously clunky but if you ask a fan it's one of the greatest things ever made.
