If you saw my post with the stamp of the rock form known as “The Pants”, here is a photo of a Polar Bear dwarfed by it, seen through its legs. I had the wrong lens on and couldn’t get a photo of the entire formation and bear.

@NunavutBirder The "something for scale" is amazing. :)

Speaking of that dress, when it came out, I took it into PS to check the colours and the gold was in the yellow range, the whites had a blue cast. So I still cannot understand anyone seeing it as black and blue. :)

"He was evicted and his home was later listed on Airbnb. Meanwhile, his landlord hosted a charity event to end homelessness"

headline from Toronto but could be a headline from SF

https://www.thestar.com/real-estate/he-was-evicted-and-his-home-was-later-listed-on-airbnb-meanwhile-his-landlord-hosted/article_72c86bde-e162-11ee-b6d0-e3e7190ad965.html

CStamp,
@CStamp@mastodon.social avatar

@divya Airbnb is just evil. A way to help the current housing crises (cost and availability) is to make it illegal. You get a house to live in, maybe one to vacation in, then tax the hell out of anything else so it is not practical for something like Airbnb to survive.

CStamp,
@CStamp@mastodon.social avatar

@divya The problem is that they DO leave people unhoused. There are people in small communities who have been kicked out of their rentals because a new buyer wants the profits of short-term rentals & they don't have other options. It does a LOT of damage.

No one supporting Airbnb ever has a right to complain about housing costs and availability. A person can buy a 2nd home, if they want to rent that out sure. As is, it is an evil thing.

I hate hotels & B&Bs have always been lovely.

CStamp,
@CStamp@mastodon.social avatar

@divya Regulations would mean regulating how many a single entity can have and, yes, being dismissive of a luxury over a necessity is fair. It also affects neighbourhoods themselves when a person is able to turn a residential home into a short term rental. Homes and longterm rentals are much more important than "well, I prefer..."

The original idea of airbnbs were to rent out one's own home while on vacation. "Someone else's vacation will pay for yours" thing. Which has been corrupted.

I sure wish I could see this amazing aurora, but the fog is rolling in over Twin Peaks, and it's still unlikely that it will be active by the time it's dark here? It's not likely.

I'll still go outside, just in case, after dark tonight.

CStamp,

@kristinHenry If you can do a long exposure with your camera, you might record more colour than you see with your naked eye.

Using a gun to kill a deer is an innately cowardly act.

CStamp,
@CStamp@mastodon.social avatar

@Gustodon What kind of gun and what are the circumstances? There are people who hunt for food, depend on hunting for food. Killing a deer with a bullet seems more humane than how most livestock is treated.

I am angry that he didn't have to stand in front of a height scale for his mug shot and was allowed to lie about his height and weight. ;)

Relented and signed up for Amazon Prime for a 1-month trial. Opened Prime Video app on Apple TV, chose something “included with Prime” to watch (because Prime Video seems mostly to exist to upsell you on channels/partners for more money), then got hit with unskippable ads — 3 of them.

Deleted the app. Cancelled the trial. Despite 357 warnings, I’m delighted to be losing out on my “Prime benefits”. 🙄

It’s amazing how little I want to pay to watch ads.

LOTS and LOTS of kids. 66 counts of sexual crimes against children.

CStamp,
@CStamp@mastodon.social avatar

@tantramar @BootsChantilly @mmiasma @RickiTarr Wow. Pretty amazing.

I wish it were easier for adopted people to learn family histories, even if parent names are optional, as that connection itself is really grounding. Being able to connect with lost parents (and kids) is really special.

I had an aunt who wanted a large family, couldn't have kids, so adopted 5. Some looked for parents when they were older, as that icing, and some were fine not knowing, happy enough in a large family.

One day, I'll visit here with some company. As a lone woman, I try to leave here before sunset because at this time of day, by the time I climb back up the very steep hill trail and walk back to where there are lots of people, it is dark. I'm glad I "chanced" a later time, but still couldn't linger to see how the sky might change. I loved the mist and the rock silhouettes. Straight ahead is the Pacific; behind, to the right, the Golden Gate Bridge.

I am talking o a reporter about this in a couple hours: https://regina.ctvnews.ca/from-outer-space-sask-farmers-baffled-after-discovering-strange-wreckage-in-field-1.6880353

This is about an hour away from my farm, so this'll be a fun conversation, and yet another great opportunity to tell a lot of people about what a huge problem we have with unregulated commercialization of orbit. (Also I just redid my slides for my public talk next week, this is going in!)
