This small, unremarkable-looking tree in Glasgow's Botanic Gardens has a surprising and poignant history which starts half a world and more than half a century away.

On the 9th of August 1945, the US dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki in Japan. While almost every living thing was incinerated in the blast, a Kaki tree (known in Britain as a Persimmon tree) somehow survived.

The Linn Park Bridge over White Cart Water. Built around 1810, this is the oldest complete cast iron bridge in Glasgow. It's located on the former drive to Linn Park House and was part of its estate, which was acquired by the Glasgow Corporation in 1919.

from sources inside the facility:

Israeli military tanks are located inside the hospital courtyard.

The soldiers are using loudspeakers ordering young men to surrender themselves.

Israeli forces have blown up a warehouse of medicine and medical devices in the hospital.

About 30 people taken outside were stripped of their clothes, blindfolded, surrounded by three tanks in the courtyard.

I love these cast iron Juliet balconies on the 1837 Georgian townhouses on Newton Place in Glasgow. The central Palmette or palm frond originates in Ancient Egyptian architecture and was widely used by Alexander 'Greek' Thomson and other Classical Glasgow architects of the nineteenth century.

I was thinking about our discussion on Trump's majority in swing states. There's also this point to consider: Biden's doing himself no favours with voters in regard to his stance on Gaza, so whilst that might not directly affect Republicans' voting intentions, it could well cause Dems either to stay at home or vote for a third candidate, increasing Trump's chance of a second term. Which is an extremely frightening thought.
