As you may already heard Vernissage will became independent platform (backend and web). One of the Fediverse 🌎 part like Mastodon, Writefreely, Pixelfed and others.

For this reason I would like to change current Vernissage for Pixelfed client name. Something that you will like and connect with Pixelfed 😉.

On this occasion, please send me your suggestions on what the new Vernissage for Pixelfed could be called. This is an app created with ❤️, for you, and you can create a part of it.

Did not know Jo Jones before tonight. Really loving this album.

@constantorbit Papa Jo is one of my inspirations, his flair, class, and creativity were at the top of the heap. Since you’ll probably encounter it, there’s often mixups with Philly Joe Jones, who was also a legendary drummer—but Papa Jo is my man.

@Lokjo @fatsam This reply sounds kinda suspicious. Are you sure that’s what you wanted to say?

Cyrus,
@Cyrus@zirk.us avatar

@Lokjo @fatsam Maybe just a subtle language issue. In English the idea of “both sides” is used by fascists to make it sound like they have the same moral standing as the people they oppress. I just had a reaction to the phrase “whichever side you’re on”.

So, I'm a state of deep and increasing skepticism about the Threads integration, but I'm leaving the channel open for awhile to make a slow and considered decision about the impact. So far I have a lot of ambiguous thoughts but this post is about the reappearance via threads of the toxic Twitter behavior known as the "quote tweet dunk" and especially the QTD RT, where someone flexes their own QTD on some mook via a boost/RT. It's shitty and I'm blocking the people who do it.

Cyrus,
@Cyrus@zirk.us avatar

@mrcompletely Yeah I did a lot of that on Twitter, and I think one of the things different here is we can’t dunk on a famous jerk and be part of a crowd of tens of thousands also dunking on (and punching up at) that jerk, which the jerk might actually perceive. Here the famous jerk won’t perceive anything, maybe at most a further impulse to stay on threads or whatever. While the rest of us get the jerk’s message boosted into our feeds.

Trader Joe's sources for inspiration for new food trends from POC makers and then launches their own products with other people

(Unless they go into business with a large company, like the ones that make their gimbap, I suppose)

Also why I am so weird about their 'ethnic foods'

(Also they are bad on labor practices)

@skinnylatte I’ve worked for several manufacturers that supplied TJ. TJ tells the struggling business “we will buy 100 pallets of your product.” Small bus owner sees $$ to get out of crippling debt, and their ears fuzz out the next bit: “You label it with TJ branding, we pay 65% your regular wholesale.” To fill the order, maker has to rent bigger facility, buy new equipment on credit, hire more staff. When TJ is bored and doesn’t reorder, maker is left holding the bag. Exploitative.

startup dudes are so strange about making up words when perfectly normal words already exist.

‘I am a fractional CFO’

‘You mean you’re a part time accountant’

Literally saw someone post ‘Yes! Google finally gets fractional!’ And it was a link to a part time job at Google

Cyrus,
@Cyrus@zirk.us avatar

@skinnylatte @elliots A “fractional CFO” is not an accountant, it’s a temp job in the C suite, often part time. Some small companies have nobody effective in the leadership roles but they can’t afford the full time salaries of those roles. It can honestly be called temp work, gig work, but that doesn’t sound fancy enough for these executive types.

AskPippa, to Dogs
@AskPippa@c.im avatar

It turns out most dogs don't actually like being locked up in a cage each day as many North American owners do. But they can be trained to pretend to like it.
We had many when I was growing up. Nobody crated their dogs then. And, the dogs did not look for a den-like place to sleep, which I think speaks volumes to what their 'nature' is when it comes to the ideas of dens. Dens are mostly for small pups in the wild, until they are old enough to not need that extra protection from predators. And when they are crated, they can't do their job of going to the window to check out a potential threat -- which must be really frustrating.

https://getpocket.com/explore/item/should-you-crate-your-dog-it-s-complicated

Cyrus,
@Cyrus@zirk.us avatar

@AskPippa Crates are a form of management that is valuable to us humans, but we absolutely have to give the dog something to enrich and entertain them throughout the day. Most of the “bad behaviors” people call me (a trainer) about are caused by the dog being frustrated and bored out of its mind.

Cyrus,
@Cyrus@zirk.us avatar

@AskPippa I agree with you. Sometimes management (maybe a spare room instead of a crate) is necessary to keep the dog from damaging the apartment or eating things… but people often get a dog without any plan or idea how the dog will live while they’re away all day at work. It’s sad.

    Not surprised to find out John Cougar Mellencamp is a big baby, tho.

    (Should be noted that the hecklers were just shouting at him to play music instead of telling rambling stories 😅 ... Can't blame people who paid $100+ a ticket to hear music wanting to, you know, hear music and not the wandering good-ol'-days recollections of a boomer.)

    @etherdiver @pomCountyIrregs About 4-5 years ago I went to see Ry Cooder, it was billed as a retrospective of music from across his career, with a full band. He spent at least a third of the time telling tales of his life on tour around the world; I would have been fine with that, except the majority of his stories were extremely misogynistic. The audience didn’t laugh or clap at any of it, so the whole thing was a painful boomer cringe.
