Das Geld Syndrom in a nutshell. There’s a reason why every major religion sanctions usury. It is wealth transfer from labor through business to creditors.

It’s money “destruction” in the sense of purchasing power destruction, the essence of inflation or debasing the currency. It has a lethal consequence of concentrating power.

The one measure that circumvents this decay is demurrage. Gesell formalized it in the concept of Freigeld.

And this will happen over and over and over. The water management facility of the destroyed dam, for flood control, hydro, irrigation, municipal and industrial water supply is gone, as it is for each dam or flood control system destroyed. Their functions are no more. Dams dotted all over the world are unfit for purpose, built for a climate that no longer exists. They will fall when faced with extreme weather.

I make a point of posting and amplifying posts about the concept of unconditional basic income. I do this in the hope of inspiring others to do the same. UBI isn't the only change we need to make, but I do believe it's the single most important one. If you agree, please help amplify UBI posts.

So if a free market works to optimize stuff by maximizing efficiency, and people are perfectly clairvoyant utility maximizing beings people would have gone vegan in order to maximize agricultural output, defined as max caloric return for humans.

But instead the lion’s share of output goes to maximizing calories for cows, pigs and chickens. Despite the fact they can convert non edible (for people) organic matter into human calories.

Remember folks, mainstream economists assert that 3C warming is OKEY-DOKEY. They also put universities on a commerce footing and lobbied for debt based higher education.

They also say they are a scientific discipline, because they believe that humans operate on a rational basis. Of course, they demonstrate highest evidence regarding that assertion & their rationale attainment. ;)

A snippet of history regarding that tower. The people who wanted to build it simply started construction, ignoring the planning commission. Reception close to it is notoriously bad.

Also to do work near the transmission bits you need to wear a suit that is a mobile Faraday cage. Carrying keys could kill you, in the same way metal is bad around an MRI machine.

Prominent British-Palestinian surgeon, Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah, was invited to speak in Berlin, Paris & The Hague.

He was asked to share his experiences treating patients in #Gaza.

But Germany denied him entry & imposed a Schengen-wide ban on him.

I would ask the German government why they are subordinating their laws to the ethno-religious nationalist interests of a foreign state power and criminalize protesting Jews.

Didn’t they learn about religious tolerance from the Reformation or that business about 100 years ago?

This ruling allows the Pilot to continue, but doesn’t make @GreatHwyPark 24/7 or permanent. Help us do that by signing up at https://GreatHighwayPark.com.

@notjustbikes in my city in Spain (Oviedo), after years of doing the bare minimum, the city council is finally doing some more serious bike and pedestrian infrastructure. This one should connect some of the farthest neighbourhoods with the city center in what's essentially a straight line. Quite excited about this.

Fun fact: "The Tragedy Of the Commons" is a hoax created by the white nationalist Garrett Hardin to justify stealing land from colonized people and moving it from collective ownership, "rescuing" it from the inevitable tragedy by putting it in the hands of a private owner, who will care for it properly, thanks to "rational self-interest":

Deficit spending, good, bad, or it depends? people seem to promote the idea that we can just deficit spend until the limit of inflation. This seems to me to be a wrong headed idea. On the one hand, it makes a huge difference what you spend on. Wars and subsidies for bad businesses vs housing, infrastructure, or quality scientific research for example. But the second point is that once you put money into the system it tends

There’s so much work to be done at the local level. Financing all the small projects needed to meet housing demand, as StrongTowns describes. Funding non market housing. Adding municipal energy.

Ecological restoration and urban greening to adapt to extreme rainfall and other extreme weather mitigation. Food supply chain resilience, funding measures to ride out any global or national disruptions.

restoring libraries.

GhostOnTheHalfShell,

One gripe of mine about economics, no surprise here, exceedingly loose in definitions. Absolute rubble of terms.

In grumpier moods I declare money as being that which has “this note is legal tender for all debts public and private” printed on it and every thing else is wealth. Some of it is liquid wealth, all those demand deposits (checking accounts etc) that are accepted as payment. A tangible currency is distinct from its digital from, in ways analogous to paper v e books.

🧵

GhostOnTheHalfShell,
@GhostOnTheHalfShell@masto.ai avatar

@dlakelan People reason about money as the tangible kind largely.

GhostOnTheHalfShell,
@GhostOnTheHalfShell@masto.ai avatar

@dlakelan

That might be changing, at least if municipalities want to solve their housing issues. Outfits like Urban3 have supplied the studies visualizing just what parts of a city makes money and which takes it. Looming financial insolvency in road maintenance is also sobering.
