There are 2 things to know about US agriculture.

  1. It’s very hard to make a living as a new farmer.

  2. About half our farmland is owned by wealthy families, investment funds, & others who buy it up as an asset- but don’t farm themselves.

There IS a fix to both problems!

The triangular relationship between workers, employers & the Labour Party is getting more fraught as power looms in the mid-distance...

Business want to influence Labour not to 'over' regulate their business, unions want to ensure their members (and other workers) have rights restored & extended.... and the Labour Party, what does it want?

Well, in the age of declining mass-membership, it needs wealthy donors; the unions can wield their contributions but may be outgunned by business interests?

This is what I think is a basic question. When a bank sells a home loan it's selling the total value of the loan, which is principal and expected total interest paid minus payments so far, right?

In other words, the sale value is close to

IRRC opportunity cost is an equivalent concept and captures gains or losses forgone of other options over a current choice. That term comes from operations research.

I think Robert Shrimsley (FT) is right, for the Right of the Tory party, rather than now seek a leadership election, they have a job for Rishi Sunak - be the fall guy, so after the election, they can say (even though this makes no sense to anyone but themselves), that it was Rishi being too timid in his moves rightwards that lost them the election....

Indeed, after the election fantasy/deluded politics will be the game of choice for the Tories... which might turn very dangerous

Sometimes I wish just one Republican state would leave the US to found it's own country.

Just one, which could try out all the book burning, closed borders, fewer women's rights, religios politics, non-scientific medicine — so everyone could really see, what that leads to.

So I started a mild side quest on Andrew Gelmans blog, where they are discussing Trump and politicians and started discussing deficit spending and such. I wrote several long posts describing how I think deficit spending drove inequality through amplifying the money supply and concentrating it into the hands of wealthy capitalists. QE did that, and with it the investment culture. It’s not unlike the 1920s though. The commodity is expectation and jumping on market moves.

I think this is what Soros was calling reflexivity. Business fundamentals are replaced by expectations in the market. It’s playing off its own dynamics.

There is another side effect from consolidation. Whale moves dictate prices. They have an ability to shape prices.

There’s also a lot to say from applied mmt. That Doug guy whose streams I link to, uses MMT ML to forecast markets informed by MMT concepts. I’ve been following him for some time to see how well he holds up.
