If and the fail to fulfill their promises, I predict there will be another. And another after that one. All funded and pushed by rich bastards with lots of connections. And we little people who have pushed the for years will all be expected to give them our attention and not be critical. All while this confusion slows adoption of by journalists and governments and developers and the decentralization moment passes yet again.

Hamishcampbell,

@wjmaggos yep its a war of sorts. And the mess is a part of the process. Do you think it is the time to start composting bluesky?

Hamishcampbell, to fediverse

The is a collection of decentralized social networking platforms that use , allowing people to communicate and share content across different networks. These platforms are designed to be community-driven and to prioritize native culture, which is inherently unfriendly to capitalism.

Hamishcampbell,

In contrast, many new non protocols are being developed and marketed today focus on interoperability and working within the framework of capitalism. This means that they are designed to integrate with existing capitalist systems and structures, such as advertising and monetization.

Hamishcampbell,

These new protocols need to say more about their alignment with capitalism, it is important for developers and marketers to be transparent about their values and business models so that people can make informed decisions about the technologies they use.

We need to make a clear step away from the that have wasted our society for the last 20 years.

Hamishcampbell, to fediverse

All the new non protocols are building their value on working within capitalism - it's their core "interoperability" selling point.

It would be better if we could make them say this more, so people had real information to choice where to step next.

Hamishcampbell, to random

It's interesting that we are finding it hard to move past the "policing" of language use.

Do you think this is useful to think of as legacy "stupid" that nobody can be more right than anyone else, maybe this is a good example of the capture of the idea of imperialism

Would be funny if it did not matter, we have so much compost to shovel.

Hamishcampbell,

The of is bringing in meany groups with a diversity of agender, a lot of these are capitalism friendly, this is normal, the problem is when they HIDE this and pull on the dress, this is a problem. Best for people to be honest about their agendas, it helps sought through the mess to be composted.

Hamishcampbell, (edited )

When a group of people come in to the with an imperialistic agenda and processed to hide this agenda, we end up with lots more mess and a bad smell at best or real damage to our commoners at worst. It's important that we catch his early and try and mediate for a less stinky and damaging outcome.

They are often trying to help, let's try and work with them if we can. But please PUSH back hard if we can't, keep it polite is best.

The difference between a conservative and a neoliberal is that the conservative screws you over with a “fuck you” while the neoliberal does so with a “please and thank you.”

Hamishcampbell,

@aral the neoliberal is visibly worshipping a for the last 40 years, where a conservative will find this uncomfortable and might maybe do something about this mess.

On one hand it's a good project, on the other hand it's a deeply problematic project that is pushing damage as much as good.

Would be useful to take a moment, in good faith, to balance these hands.

It is obviously BAD non-native behaver to PUSH this over the without wider REAL input.

This is a problem brings with it that we need to try and do better. Ideas please https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/a-place-to-talk-about-spreadmastodon-org-and-wider-issues-that-this-brings-up/3130/3

culture comes from the principles and values of the early internet, where open standards and decentralized systems were prioritized over closed, proprietary ones. This culture is based on the idea of a free and open internet, where anyone can participate and create without the need for gatekeepers.

    Hamishcampbell,

We need to think about the of these issues' due to the increasing visibility and attention they are pushing in the wider public, move back to the .

With this shift in attention comes the risk of co-optation or watering down of the original values and principles. It is important to be on guard and maintain a healthy balance, ensuring that the voices and needs of communities are prioritized and that efforts are not insincere or ineffective.

Why is Mastodon so dominant in the fediverse?

    Hamishcampbell,

    @raucao @rabble

you can use the hashtags, a good place to start is here for an overview http://hamishcampbell.com/2023/04/18/the-hashtags-embody-a-story-and-world-view/

    Hamishcampbell,

@raucao blog should be back online :)

    Hamishcampbell,

@raucao the is an issue with this that might not be obvuse to you - humans are social creatures - our feeling of safety and control comes from our place in groups and society, our individual actions are what builds this

Have a think of this then as a social view of technology, you need to see the embedded social values in tech to separate the "geek" from "problem" in the hashtag.

it's a good thing to think on.

    Hamishcampbell,

@raucao yep, we need better account migration in and the is nothing in the speck to stop this happening. The is the problem of the of our "governance" of and that we do need to address that is currently not prioritizing this.

    Hamishcampbell,

@raucao have a look at this from a fresh view - tech from a social view - "All code is ideology solidified into action – most contemporary code is capitalism, this is hardly a surprise if you think about this for a moment. Yes you can try and act on any ideology on top of this code but the outcome and assumptions are preprogramed… cant find any good links on this."

    Hamishcampbell,

@raucao do you get the kinda obvuse point am talking about, do you think this has needed value?

    Hamishcampbell,

@raucao that is exactly the point, the code is PURE ideology solidified into power. The less you think on this, the stronger it becomes - it's a problem, a

    Hamishcampbell,

@raucao if you wonder what the "problem" is? It's that for the last 40 years the domanet ideology has been neo-liberalism which has proven to be a , look at movement for factual information on this.

All the are made as an image of this ideology and its also imbedded in different ways in all projects unless people knowingly think in different non ways.

    Hamishcampbell,

@raucao social code is not a hammer, something like a basic graphic editor is more like a hammer, though when you start to add fashionable filters you are starting to add ideology.

Most contemporary code is not "hammers" it is complex social constructs that are being built to CONTROL and yes they call this something different, but lift the lid it's CONTROL and our geeks keep building this stuff, it's a problem.

The is a song on this https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/the-coders-song/3055

    Hamishcampbell,

@raucao OK we get here on to the second pipe pumping mess - is a dead philosophy that you are expressing with likely no understanding that this is what you are doing, this is a "problem". Agen it has been the philosophical underpinning of the last 40 years, can you think outside this mess is what am asking you :)

So far in both cases NO - this is a good illustration of the the point is taking this opertunerty to step away from this mess.

    Hamishcampbell,

@raucao OK we divide in our conversation here, let's take a break before we start to bring the Nazis into play :)

Have a read back and think on the issues, they are things for you to learn and grow from if you are interested in this. Happy to talk agen in the future, lots of good videos here http://visionon.tv that touch on this and the paths that work.

Quite enjoying the vibe at , but also having a damn hard time with going back to so few characters to post with. Six months on Mastodon has really got me obsessed with the freedom to blog in a post. And editing! You can't edit your posts on bluesky, argh!

    Hamishcampbell,

@mikestevens projects are all based on ideology- is capitalism, monetisation is a core priority, just like twitter they are leaving it out at the start as the usual bait and switch.

The tech might be different, but the world view is

The is built on a different world-view which is why it is important, the tech in both cases is secondary.
