Cooking some leftover tandoori lamb in a fairly standard onion/tomato curry sauce. This is generally fairly inauthentic in Indian terms, I believe, but is part of the origin story of British Indian Restaurant cooking. And damn it's good.

If we're going to stick with C20th policies, can we also have the well funded NHS, decent benefit payments, free university education with maintainance grants, greater rights for trade unions & protestors, & taxation of the wealthy to pay for it all?

Say it with me folks, inheritance tax.

We are entering into "the great wealth transfer" where about $5.2 trillion (that's the one with more zeros than I can count) is about to pass from the, largely undeserving, super rich to their entirely undeserving heirs.

"Research by Forbes magazine found there were 15 billionaires aged 30 or under but that none had created their own wealth, instead benefitting from huge inheritances."

Ah, but as I understand it the difference is that in England it is an absolute defence per s18(4) of the Public Order Act 1986 as amended that:
"he was inside a dwelling and had no reason to believe that the words or behaviour used, or the written material displayed, would be heard or seen by a person outside that or any other dwelling."
Whereas in Scotland it is still an offence even if you do it inside a home! <clutch pearls/>

HighlandLawyer, to random
@HighlandLawyer@mastodon.social avatar

The fact that the (Scottish/UK) media is currently full of people criticising the Scottish govt & parliament for making it illegal to organise a pogrom from the comfort of your own home, and not a peep about how the vast majority of people in Scotland have been priced out of being able to enforce their legal rights in the civil courts, tells you everything you need to know about who is driving the agenda.

"We do not agree with the United Kingdom Government that nuclear energy is environmentally sustainable. [It] is not required in Scotland. Our draft energy strategy sets out that the capacity for renewable generation in Scotland could mean that Scotland’s annual electricity capacity generation will be more than double our demand by 2030 and more than treble by 2045. We have a route to net zero through renewables. We do not need nuclear power."

HighlandLawyer,
@HighlandLawyer@mastodon.social avatar

@nitpicking @pauloldhamsnp The reasoning is in Scotland we already have a cheaper, safer, alternative using an existing (though still improving) set of renewable technologies.
Dounreay has been closed down, but the specialist clean up of the area will still be decades; how much to remove a wind turbine at end of its life?
Now all we need is for the energy pricing scheme to be altered (at Westminster) to stop Scotland being charged more than England.

If the amount of "justice" you receive is based on how good the lawyers you can afford are, then "justice" is only for the rich.

HighlandLawyer,
@HighlandLawyer@mastodon.social avatar

@log @Andres @RickiTarr Scotland removed bail for money in 1980. Instead there are standard bail conditions, which include a requirement to turn up at court when required, & if you break that (a) that in itself is a separate offence, & (b) an arrest warrant will be issued. Most people turn up; if there is a problem most people contact the court in advance to explain & get a later attendance time. It works.
