@mekkaokereke thank you for putting this into words. And god how sick. This country does everything it can—violence, incarceration, stereotyping, on and on—to make Black fathers into villains. When Black fatherhood is so beautiful.

    Jamie Foxx didn't say something anti-semitic. He said something people thought was anti-semitic.

    Because they weren't familiar with his phrase, and he wasn't familiar with the anti-semitic dog-whistle.

    He apologized for being misunderstood, not for being anti-semitic.

    Yes, it is very good that he clarified.

    I’ve been thinking a lot about how it’s so strange that when we post, we don’t know who our audience really is. His message made total sense if the audience was Black people. But his audience also included Jews…and neo-Nazis.

    So it makes sense to clarify to that he doesn’t hate the former, and he’s not on a team w the latter.

    I feel like the bigger question is, how do we make these calls for clarification/apology feel less unfair/burdensome?

    No Megan Rapinoe slander will be tolerated. None, you hear me? Rapinoe was the first white football player to support Colin Kaepernick. Soccer is football.

    I'm scared of France, Netherlands, and England. The US didn't get much worse. Everyone else has gotten a lot better.

    The "I'm a Fox watcher that can't name 3 players in the US Women's Nation Team" to "I'm now an expert on women's soccer, and make more misogynistic comments about the USWNT than Alexi Lalas" pipeline is always in full effect.

    And when she tried to join the Fediverse, she was greeted with a barrage of hate, sexism, racism, and anti-semitism that should have never been allowed to happen.

    So now no one on Fediverse gets to interact with her directly about her work on here. Our loss. 😢

    Which is why we'll make it so that this type of terrible welcome is unlikely to happen again. Allowing it to happen to her was a choice. We will make better ones.

    Dropped by Bluesky for the first time in a while. I'm a Fediperson but still have sympathy with what they're trying to do, and the tone seems to have stabilized for the moment.

    Anyhow, I have 30 invites that I haven't thought about in a while, so, giving them away. Reply to this post if you want one. In case that's more than 30 people I will invent totally arbitrary and questionably fair criteria for handing them out.

    Maybe stop if there are already a huge number of replies.

    I don’t like to mention that rich guy over at #Twitter, but he’s rambling on about #ClimateChange & agriculture, which is in my wheelhouse. And he is also unabashedly & absurdly wrong.

    Misinformation on climate change is irresponsible & dangerous, so let’s be clear:

    25% to 30% of global emissions come from our #food system.

    As UT Austin’s Michael Webber describes, agriculture is a major cause, victim and - importantly - meaningful solution to #climate change.

    This is part of what's going to revitalize San Francisco. Not a "war on drugs" magically starting to work today, when it hasn't worked at all for the past checks notes 50 years.

    Construction permitting is still a mess, but this is a step in the right direction.

    No one wants to work in San Francisco.

    Everyone wants to live in San Francisco.

    (The war on drugs is just a war on Black folk. White folk do way more drugs, but Black folk are punished many times more).

    @mekkaokereke i also have weirdly high hopes for some of the more (somewhat) grassroots efforts like the civic joy fund. Just people who really love the city trying to make it better.

    I also like the plan to fill empty space downtown w pop ups.

    @erinmikail one time a friend of mine at neurips went into the women’s bathroom and it was flooded from a sink that had been left on and no one had been in there for a very long time since that one lone forgetful woman.

    @breadandcircuses I totally respect the idea here but I gotta point out how much more unpaid labor was required of women when many of these products didn’t exist. Could I achieve what I want if I had to spend exponentially more time cleaning dishes and diapers and cooking dinners? Probably not.

    I guess you could say: ”That’s exactly what a programmer would say”, but for me what’s most transformative about is not really it’s abilities to reassemble information.

    I find it’s most transformative use to be that it allows in , opening creation of to anyone.

    Of course agent features need to be there, but those will be pretty much online in a few months by the early adoptors.

    @gimulnautti agreed!! Do you know of any companies that are trying to facilitate this? I’m so excited for the huge expansion of ideas that might get to come to fruition when we don’t depend on the narrow slice of society that programs.
