A genuine wildflower has appeared in our "wildflower" garden patch. We seeded a bit of strimmed-to-the-roots lawn a few years ago with a local mix of seeds. It looked ok, but we gave up. We've left it alone again this year and a Bulbous Buttercup has appeared, which was not in the original mix. So it got here on it's own, so a wild flower. The other "wildflowers" that came from the mix are not, because we planted them.

A woolly jumper. Now go off, my little furry friend, and kill some bloody midges.

Why am I so bad at kneading bread??
Every recipe says I should be done with this bread dough after 10-15 minutes. I'm 30 minutes in and it's just about starting to look like it might hold together one day.
I'm not especially weak, I feel like I'm doing the things I was shown, what's wrong?

JohnDal,

@christianp Rest dough for 10 mins. Knead 10 or so times. Rest for 10 mins. Knead 10 or so times. Rest for 10 mins. (thanks to Nigella for that) Knead one last time. Oh, and Knead = stretch, not pummel to death.

Ooh, Ilderton Station's for sale (it's the one on the A697 between Powburn and Wooler). If anyone has half a mil for a novelty house.

This was built back in the day when the lord of the manor could convince the village idiots he was wonderful by taking an extra shilling off them and giving them a penny back. It was a roaring success, they even built this column to his honour. Now, of course, the village idiots can communicate via the internet and worship the lords of the manor muchly morey and be even more stupid and put them in charge of the whole bloody country.

A little green world at the base of a sycamore tree at the base of a deep dene near a deep stream. Good elfin habitat I imagine.

Just in case anyone thought that the "Cost Of Living Crisis" was a crisis for everyone, this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-68776913 It is a deliberately engineered transfer of wealth and power towards the already rich and powerful and drive more people into poverty and servitude.

In case you missed this, it's a marvellous documentary about a fantastic photographer ignored by the UK middle-class London-centric art establishment , the disgusting treatment of the working classes since 50's and about my home - Elswick - in the decade after I left it. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001xyrg

@DrALJONES Our own Fascist government must have been too busy fighting amongst themselves over how to enrich themselves and their masters to have noticed this one. It would wind up the gammons wonderfully.

The easiest way to get landscape photos to stand out is to stand somewhere different. As an ardent hillwalker/moor-rambler in my younger years, this wasn't difficult. For (UK) Northumbrians there's a magical little spot on the edge of the moors overlooking the Vale Of Whittingham from where these 3 were taken. Exact details available for a pint.

Wide expansive winter late afternoon view over Whittingham Vale, a scene of trees and fields with a blue sky with wispy clouds
Black and white shot of a leafless stand of trees with rig and furrowed field in the background, looking downwards from a hillside.
