I finished the Fallout TV series. It’s very well done. Even if you haven’t played the video games—I haven’t—you will appreciate the world-building and great performances. Every character is so well done.

LarsFosdal,
@LarsFosdal@mastodon.social avatar

@atomicpoet I loved it. It kept the tone of the game with the dirt dry humor and occasional horror. Can't wait for next season!

Carline Tromp har anmeldt "Yellowface" og mener oversettelsen ikke holder mål. Merker meg spesielt at hu reagerer på gammelmodig språk ("jentefut", rly?), for det fenomenet diskuterte jeg med kona i går. Jeg synes ofte romaner oversatt til norsk høres veldig gammelmodige ut, som 50 år gamle norske romaner, og oftere blir jeg da sittende å lure på tonen i boka på originalspråket. Spesielt når forfatteren er ung.

    jon, to Vivaldi
    @jon@vivaldi.net avatar

    I had a survey where I asked users on Mastodon which Vivaldi products and services they are using. This is the result:

    83% Vivaldi on Windows, Mac & Linux.
    65% Vivaldi on mobile
    56% Vivaldi sync
    39% Vivaldi Social (Mastodon)
    13% Vivaldi Forums
    9% Vivaldi Blogs
    1% Vivaldi Automotive

    11% used none of the Vivaldi products and services.

    724 responded.

    It is great to see how many are using Vivaldi across devices and sync. Vivaldi is one of the few browsers that offers browsers on all major OS and the only browser to do that and provide the browser in cars as well.

    It is also great to see how many are using the different Vivaldi services. We are happy to provide ways for our community to engage and to support the Fediverse!

    If you wonder what Vivaldi is, the best way to figure that out is to download it from vivaldi.com.

    Sorry man. DuckDuckGo and Chrome here, on Android, MacOS and Windows.

    The first release. In way, it was a bit like Opera. I just couldn't get comfortable with it and eventually uninstalled it.

    LarsFosdal,
    @LarsFosdal@mastodon.social avatar

    @jon @Vivaldi
    I have no doubt that it has evolved, but I've also installed numerous Opera versions over the years. They all eventually ended up in the bin, and not for the lack of me trying to like them.

    Right now, DDG is my favorite for random browsing, but Chrome is my workhorse.

    LarsFosdal,
    @LarsFosdal@mastodon.social avatar

    @jon @Vivaldi

    I'll give Vivaldi a spin with Speedometer 3.0 eventually. So far, DDG has the been fastest there.

    We've come a long way since Netscape :)

    LarsFosdal,
    @LarsFosdal@mastodon.social avatar

    @jon @Vivaldi
    I downloaded the latest Vivaldi on Windows, and ran it through Speedometer, and it was actually slightly faster than DDG. First impressions: I like the UI. Lean and tidy, so I will try it a bit more.

    Not too keen on adopting the mail/calendar, unless it works seamlessly with GMail/Google Calendar?

    Another worry I have, is that I use a password manager on all platforms - which I would like to keep, and it is unclear if it can integrate with Vivaldi on all platforms.

    LarsFosdal,
    @LarsFosdal@mastodon.social avatar

    @AlexTheStampede @jon @Vivaldi
    It was Opera, pre-chromium, back when standards was still very much evolving, and each browser did their own thing on top of the evolving standards.

    I love my @Mastodon feed. I follow so many interesting people that post and boost interesting things. Every other platform is garbage and full of ads. I’m so happy I put l in the effort to engage and liberally follow people here from the outset. And I’m an example of someone who is on a one-person instance that is fully connected to the fediverse and what it has to offer.

    LarsFosdal,
    @LarsFosdal@mastodon.social avatar

    @jon @Mastodon I agree! Although I am at the biggest instance, the ability to find and connect with people on a multitude of instances, writing all sorts of posts on practically any subject - without an algorithm impacting what I see, is refreshing and rewarding!

    Jeg har ett inntrykk av at de fleste utviklere ikke bryr seg så mye om personvern og ett åpent internett. Jeg ser at mange har omfavnet Google og deres tjenester, samt bruker de fleste andre tjenester ukritisk. Er inntrykket rett?

    LarsFosdal,
    @LarsFosdal@mastodon.social avatar

    @Luuni Jeg bruker Googles tjenester. I motsetning til Twitter, Meta og andre - så selger ikke Google info om meg, men viser reklame for meg som matcher annonsøren sine måldefinisjoner, og som jeg ikke har sagt er uinteressant.

    Annonsøren vet ikke hvem jeg er før jeg har klikket meg inn på annonsen.

    Stor forskjell på det og hva f.x. Meta gjør, som gir Annonsøren tilgang til meg og kan skreddersy annonsene spesifikt for meg.

    Vet Google mye om meg? Ja.
    Gir det tjenestene merverdi? Ja.
