Sigh, might be uninstalling those Wyze cameras if they add facial recognition (yes, yes, aware of the security holes). They're sending out a survey about "features people want in Facial Recognition" (without any option of "no, don't want you collecting my biometrics, thank you")

My 4Runner needs a minor bit of maintenance tomorrow so swapped vehicles with my Dad so he can deal with that while I go to work.

The sky was clear last night and my Dad got the telescope out for some more nebula photography.

From his Bluesky post "Still getting used to the ZWO Seestar S50. Finally got it focused and somewhat centered.Horsehead Nebula,40 min stack 10 sec exposure. I don't have any software to enhance the image so its what I get."

1 hour later: looked up a walkthrough before even leaving the prologue and dies nearly every 30 seconds before out of the first section.

My Dad got a new Seestar S50 and picked "Orion Nebula" on the app. 10 minutes later, it stacked the images it had taken and gave us this view of the stellar nursery.

My office goes out to lunch occasionally (used to be more frequent, but then I was put in charge of organizing it and my introverted self just Nopes right out). I always end up feeling weird at these. I can rarely contribute to the conversation (the rest of the office all share a similar background, life course, family make up, and recreational activities that I just don't relate to) so am never part of the topic and they all like a type of restaurant that just isn't my style (I like fast food burgers, not artisan salads with exotic toppings). I end up staring at my simple meal in silence wondering if the weirdness of me excusing myself from the group is less than, equal to, or greater than the weirdness of me just sitting there being ignored.

I've yet to brave saying no cause as least I get a free meal out of it.

I lean strongly towards being an introvert, I am not very social, and I never go to parties (not even BEFORE the pandemic), so it amused me greatly to borrow this book from the library. I am 100% sure I will increase my knowledge in this area significantly beyond zero.

Tomorrow I have a goal to cook all the things! My freezer is empty and my crock pot and Dutch oven are dusty. Hoping the post office delivers the souper cubes that I bought so I can test having frozen food bricks stacked neatly.

It'll give me something to do while watching Tango host the pack of YouTubers invited onto Hermitcraft to run Decked Out tomorrow.

Timelapse of the stars last night while we waited to see if we could see any meteors. The little Wyze camera does pretty good seeing the brighter stars.

Looking east towards the constellations Orion, Canis Major, Canis Minor, and Gemini as the earth turns over an hour and a half. In the foreground, a large tree is to the left that periodically lights up from the traffic coming over the hill on the highway on the right side of the image.

Spent the morning out at Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge taking pictures of who I could see.

A lovely Great Blue Heron and Great Egret.

A great blue heron glides low over the reed filled shallow lake, it's long grey neck contracted against it's body while the long thin black legs rest straight out. Long grey wings are held parallel. The blue water and tan reeds stretch out into the distance.
A sunlit large white Great Egret stands in the low grass along the edge of a shallow lake, it's large white body held up by thin black legs. The long white neck is stretched upwards, a green patch around its eye and yellow bill the only other colors on the bird. The background is filled with a tangle of tan reeds and bard bush branches.
A large white Great Egret glides low over the shallow grey water of a marsh, reeds and brush growing along the shore and out in the water. It's long white neck is pulled back against it's body while the long thin black legs hang out behind it. Large white wings are held down mid stroke.

Several smaller birds also stayed still long enough for me to get (somewhat) focused on them.

Three sparrows perched on the top of a low growing bush, with light brown grasses and reeds stretching off into the distance. The middle one is a male white crowned sparrow, the distinctive white and black stripe over the head with a small orange beak stand out from the light and dark brown body. The other two, I presume, are female white crowned sparrows.
A yellow and brown Western Meadowlark perches on a wire between two poles, the dark V on the upper chest just barely visible from the angle. The long thin beak points to the right as a dark eye glints in the sunlight.
A blue, grey, black, and white Loggerhead Shrike perches on the top of a white National Wildlife Refuge sign. The black hooked beak and dark wings folded over its back make this an easy bird to see.

Okay last ones, though I did see many more birds out there. In winter, most of the males lose their fancy coloring and it's interesting to see them "dull" in comparison.

A black American Coot swims across a still grey lake, the red eye standing out from the black head and the white beak and forehead shining bright in the sunlight.
Two male Northern Shovelers take flight from a rippled blue lake, their wings downward, showing off the flashy blue on the upper wing and green on the secondaries. Both birds are just above the water, their tails still flared from take off.
A plain brown male Ruddy Duck, his beak black, white cheek below a dark brown cap, with that proud tail still head upright as he swims slowly across a rippled lake.
