@Paulos_the_fog@qoto.org

Retired software engineer & woodworker.
Anglo-francophone.
Detest tories. Subscribe to green, leftish radical politics but not to any particular political party!.
Love the EU and all it stands for, moreover, I spent the last 10 years of my career working at an EU agency.
Enthusiastic photographer, especially wildlife and most especially butterflies.
Slightly knowledgeable gardener.
Atheist; loathe almost all religions and pity the people deluded enough to follow them. I make exceptions for Buddhism as it isn't really a religion in the strictest sense of the word as it doesn't postulate the existence of any god, and Jainism which is the epitome of peace.

For anyone who is interested, my header photo is of the most stupendous sunset I have ever seen. On the right is the waterfront of Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on the left is Thailand and in the middle, acting as the border between the two countries is the mighty Mekong river.

The thing that astonishes me is that the tories (I refuse even to give them a capital letter) really thought that the absolutely ghastly woman they put up as a candidate had a cat in hell's chance of winning!

the IHRA can ram their definition of anti-semitism up their fucking collective arses!

The utter detestation of Israel for their heinous acts of cruelty up to and including the wholesale murder of women and children is not anti-semitism, it is normal and natural. It seems that a great many people throughout the world agree that point of view judging by the number of protests and demonstrations.

Who gives a flying fuck what the IHRA think or don't think?

Given that British nurses are paid a miserable pittance compared to most of it's near neighbours, it seems likely that most nurses recruited will come from 3rd world countries where there is already a shortage of nurses thus depriving poorer countries of the nursing staff they so desperately need.

I wouldn't expect the filthy tory scum to even consider that aspect of their policies; they are far too selfish!

I have both a Kindle e-reader and a Kobo e-reader. I prefer the look and feel of the Kobo but I get significantly better cheap book offers from Amazon so the Kindle gets used an awful lot more. I do sometimes worry about authors cuts on these discounts but I generally go on to buy full price books from those authors which makes me feel less guilty.

I too have a Kindle and, whilst it is an easy way to carry a lot of books around, there is one thing about it that REALLY annoys me. Pagination - with an e-reader there is no reason to paginate - what I want is an e-reader that scrolls - page flipping is appropriate to paper books but not to electronic copy. For god's sake give us the option of uninterrupted scrolling!

The case against Trudi Warner for contempt of court (for holding up a placard outside a court reminding a jury of their right to find not guilty on the basis of their conscience), has been dismissed as 'fanciful' today (after a years wait).

We are still failing across the world to get more women into leadership roles in politics which itself stems for a failure to get more women into political careers.

Whether you believe women do politics differently, or whether you see this as an issue of gender representation, to be two decades into the new millennia & for this to still be the case tells us that patriarchy & male domination remain issues that has yet to be disposed of

10 hours after Al Jazeera reported on the new mass grave discovered at Nasser hospital in Khan Younis yesterday where 180 bodies had been found, and according to my searches, no western media has reported on it yet.

Middle East Eye has more up to date coverage. More than 200 bodies have been recovered and rescuers say they fear 400 bodies are buried there. https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/hundreds-bodies-unearthed-nasser-hospital-mass-graves

According to Al Jazeera, the bodies of children, elderly women and young men were among those found.

Rescue teams said some bodies had their hands bound behind their backs, suggesting they were executed and buried on the spot.

Indeed! I'm sure there is a way to store transparencies that protects them from fungal degradation but whatever it is, clearly, I didn't do it!

I met a photographer over in India who was trekking around India with around 1000 cassettes of Kodachrome in several lead lined sacks to avoid them being fogged going through airport x-ray machines. He made a living selling photos via picture libraries. Interestingly, back then most picture libraries would only accept Kodachrome for 35mm submissions!
