ULEZ discussion.
Firstly, I sometimes feel that anyone who questions electric vehicles or things such as ULEZ zones is labelled as climate denier or even worse as a Tory. Neither of these things are true.
Edinburgh ULEz is my closest zone. I can see the befit for pedestrians from better air quality but wonder if there are better ways to produce the same outcome. My main concern is that ULEZ seems to punish people with older vehicles. Many do not have the money to purchase something newer 1/2
Is there a better way to promote public transport rather than ULEZ which focuses on the private car. I am starting to think that private car ownership is the issue much more than the age of vehicles. A ULEZ which encourages scrapping of perfectly serviceable vehicles is hardly environmentally friendly.
These are the things we shouldn't just accept but need to discuss. 2/2 #ULEZ #climatechange
Seems Khan has #LondonMayor in the bag, despite lots of rumours of it being at risk.
This seems to be such a common social media thing - lots of people saying he's probably safe, but the handful of people saying he's in danger get a lot more airtime as it's just more interesting.
I'm not sure if it's doomsayers, or misguided hope from people desperate trying to boost #ulez hatred. #ukpol
Tip, all the nut jobs lead their manifesto with getting rid of #ULEZ, despite the fact that it's been a great success
I'm honestly amazed at the altright extremists this year, openly advocating for more white supremacy and trashing of anything that would make life better for Londoners
In our Lewisham Mayoral by-election the top three all supported #ULEZ & #LTN. The bottom four didn't. The votes cast for the three was around 80% of the whole.
Yet my area suffered the worst of the ULEZ camera attacks on the grounds of protecting the people from dictating bureaucrats. It's just a cynical media attack to galvanise deluded vandals and try and hoodwink the public. The latter hasn't worked here.
Conspiracy theories begin and are fanned by corrupt politicians in the UK, supported by much of what passes as ‘the press'. It is not only the reporting of ‘facts' that harms, it is the way that when these claims are repeated, the media fails to call out the story teller (and yes BBC/C4/ITV I am talking about you).
"The number of #pollutingvehicles within the #CAZ boundary has seen a huge drop compared to the year before, two thirds of a reduction, or 64 per cent to be precise. Data also shows that the polluting #traffic around the boundary has also dropped by 18 per cent – suggesting that more and more people are making the switch to cleaner vehicles."
You can always trust a Tory to do the wrong things for the wrong reasons.
And when that fails - fake it. From 15 minute city hysteria to ULEZ paranoia they have realised by lying and taking any credit (depending on how the Daily Fail is blowing on that particular day) they can benefit. The rest of England (in this case) suffers.
European cars are getting 1cm wider every 2 years #autobesity
"Crash data from Belgium from 2017 to 2021 shows that a 10cm increase in the height of vehicle fronts raises the risk of death by 30% when a car hits a pedestrian or cyclist, according to a study by the Vias Institute, previously the Belgian Institute for Road Safety."
With cars getting 5mm wider every year, and bigger cars more likely to kill other road users as well as pumping out ever more emissions, Paris votes to triple parking charges for #SUVs. This seems like an excellent strategy for avoiding the potentially regressive nature of schemes like London't #ULEZ which potentially penalises poorer people with older cars.
This research confirms what every parent probably already knew. It is worth remembering this the next time the BBC promote the anti-ULEZ implementation. Air pollution kills. That is all that should matter. #Pollution#ULEZ#Scotland#NHS
"The report showed that improvements in #AirQuality between 2019 and 2022 from lowering motor vehicle pollution – even before the expansion of the #ULEZ throughout the capital since August – rivalled the potential savings from entirely cleaning up #London’s aviation or industrial and commercial heat and power generation."
"#Antwerp was the first city to set up a zone in 2017. This was followed by #Brussels, and then #Ghent. Like #London’s ultra-low emission zone (#ULEZ), and more than 320 schemes across Europe, the Belgian zones are designed to improve air pollution by deterring the most polluting vehicles from driving on city streets (generally the oldest diesels)."
In these cities, #AirPollution has decreased faster than in cities without low emissions zones.
