@Crell This is why you need progressive fines, fines that aren't just based on the severity of the infraction but also the income of the culprit. It's still "legal for a fee" but the fee is properly punitive regardless of who's committing it.

@grrrr_shark At this point, Musk endorsing anything is enough to make me question if I want to be associated with something he endorsed.

Report

In a first potential concession from a US university on student protests, Brown U reaches agreement with protesters.

Protestors would remove their encampment in exchange for the institution considering divesting from Israel.

5 students will be invited to meet with five members of Brown in May to present their arguments, & the board will vote on the proposal in October.

StarkRG,

@petrillic I think it might be possible to do that while still also murdering whistleblowers.

The United Fruit Company (now Chiquita) got away with hiring the CIA to overthrow a government, and most people didn't know about it until somewhat recently.

Murder by corporations is legal in the US, encouraged, even. It's embezzlement that's illegal because that's stealing from rich people.

StarkRG,
@StarkRG@myside-yourside.net avatar

@Binder It used to be spelled Kæther but that spelling fell out of fashion after Einstein published “On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies”, his Special Theory of Relativity, making the long term reliance on the outdated concept unnecessary.

Something similar happened with the name Phil, which was originally short for Philogiston.

"Can you do some research for me. I need to know the best server/hosting site/ software etc for publishing audio & film files...like an audio book or podcast hosting site"

i would be grateful for your opinion.

@amiserabilist @Mrfunkedude Peertube should work for video, it might work for audio too. If not, even just a plain ol' mastodon server can be used to publish a podcast since each user profile has an rss feed (just add .rss to the end of the URL).

Stop trying to make language ‘funner.’ Grammar rules exist for a reason. https://wapo.st/49Wpllv

StarkRG,
@StarkRG@myside-yourside.net avatar

@jeffjarvis English doesn't have grammar rules, it has sets of common grammar conventions. Not everyone follows the same set of conventions, but it's still English. Example, the split infinitive "rule" was introduced by someone with a hard-on for Latin, but split infinitives have been part of English for longer than it's been Modern English. Same with ending sentences with prepositions.

Judging people based on their use of English is no less bigoted than judging them based on skin color.

AI search DOES NOT WORK. A working search engine, upon finding no results, tells the user that it has found no results. An AI search engine just chooses things at random.

@StarkRG@myside-yourside.net avatar

It's interesting that the term we use for events that take place outside the narrative is "off-camera" which implies that discussions about such events are relatively recent or only recently increased in frequency. I can't think of any term for "off-camera" events in a book, audio play, stage play, or graphic novel other than "off camera". There is "off stage" for a stage play, but that refers to stuff that happens in the real world, not something related to the narrative.

The popularity of Reese's peanut butter stuff (cups, pieces, etc.) really goes to show that putting chocolate and peanut butter together is such a good idea that it barely matters if the chocolate is foul and calling it "peanut butter" is really pushing the boundaries of the definition.

So, lemmie get this straight, the people advising the US government on how to safely implement AI in critical infrastructure are the people who would most benefit financially from implementing AI in any way whatsoever? That's like taking advice from oil companies on whether climate change is an issue. Oh, they're doing that too, great.

Well this is a rather interesting discovery. If you're finding that your search results are all AI-generated garbage, try excluding the word "Amazon" (on duck duck go you tack -"amazon" to your search, google used to do that too, not sure now). There's still AI garbage in there, but it definitely seems to have improved the quality of the search results.

I tried this out when I realized that each and every AI crap page was an Amazon affiliate and I wondered what I'd get if I excluded them.
