    The Verge's Elizabeth Lopatto has a superb takedown of Isaacson, author of the Musk hagiography. One glaring misstep: calling Musk's incessant lies "hilarious" -- his deceit has damaged a lot of people, and has highlighted the continual failings of a compliant press and government, both of which have enabled him.

    Here’s what went down: we just won a clean 45 day gov extension, stripped GOP’s earlier 30% cuts to Social Security admin etc, staved off last minute anti-immigrant hijinks, and averted shutdown (for now).

    I just watched whining Kevin McCarthy try and blame Joe Biden for the looming government shutdown all because McCarthy cannot control his own majority to vote for a bipartisan bill that will pass the Senate and go to the President for signature.

    What McCarthy “forgot” to mention is that Biden met him July and reached an agreement that would have, I believe, kept the government open until the end of the year. It’s not Biden's fault that McCarthy can't do his own job.

    The WaPo tells us...

    The lone Democrat to vote against the recently passed short-term spending bill to fund the federal government was Rep. Mike Quigley (Ill.), co-chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus. He opposed the resolution’s lack of Ukraine aid.

    Quigley tweeted that the bill “is a victory for [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and his sympathizers. We now have 45 days to correct this mistake.”

    The lamest blame shifting yet, the WaPo reports:

    House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) sought to blame President Biden for the potential shutdown after emerging from a meeting with House Republicans.

    “We are putting something on the floor that will continue to pay our troops,”

    McCarthy told reporters. “And if he wants to lobby against it and tell Democrats to vote against it, then the shutdown is on him.”
