We destroyed ourselves.

Besides this project being an affront to actual durable, efficient, green and transformative public transportation, the public safety issues of this system remain largely unresolved in my view - particularly on the evacuation plan in any given stretch of this system, particularly with those with needs.

If I were a Clark County, resident, I would be livid at the hand-waving here.

Wow. Big!

The compiler will almost certainly not be , which is just a tiny bit sad, but the advancement of Rust into this domain would be a milestone.

Hmm.

Perhaps I should do a thread on the Bot and robot (or, well, I guess domain-specific and bipedal in general)...

At the very least, there seems like there is a lot of simmering interest in this rather niche domain lately.

Perhaps later on today or tomorrow... I need to collect some clips and articles. ๐Ÿ˜œ

And, no, it will not be my usual dump truck on Tesla. I would be aiming for something more general and educational here.

The recent consolidation in the market has been interesting from its lofty promise back around 2015 or so.

I can recall many pilot programs at many manufacturers that I saw personally.

is a tough nut (perhaps, the toughest nut) to crack in terms of displacing entrenched, proven processes like machining and casting.

is so rich in history.

A modest amount of history has been lost over the years, but I really appreciate the frequent glimpses back in timeโ€ฆ however small.

This the examination room at our vetโ€™s office in Downtown Detroit.

adamjcook, to detroit

Damn.

I was wondering why my throat was getting sore.

adamjcook, to China

This is a mistake.

In general, I do not support improving - economic relationships... and more than that, the US needs to at least have a quasi-unofficial economic policy of a complete decoupling from China-to-US imports (as China effectively has via its Made In China 2025 program).

I appreciate the timing issues and the heat from US business leaders that the Administration is under here, but this will cost us dearly in time.

We need urgency here.

is an absolute piece of shit.

I do not recommend it, but if you feel like checking in on what that filth is liking and boosting over on these days... the @elon_alerts account tracks it: https://twitter.com/elon_alerts

โ€™s completely unsupported and unhinged promises of future therapies, treatments or prosthetic devices enabled by his firm and this โ€œโ€ humanoid robotics project is pretty damn disgusting.

A new, disgusting low.

Even relative to Teslaโ€™s vast and wrongdoings, which is saying something.

This man lies like he breathes.

adamjcook, to detroit

I have said it before, and I will keep saying it...

Nothing has damaged and more than the industry - from multiple fronts and multiple perspectives.

And although I believe that some public officials here are starting to (finally) recognize that, we must be far more aggressive in shifting away from this industry in Michigan.

The amount of state incentives that have currently been spent on facilities is too much at this point.

adamjcook, to random

I want to celebrate this more (as a huge proponent of US ), but I disagree with the โ€™s point-of-sale rebates for .

Advanced manufacturing credits for some domestic production? Sure.

Not POS vehicle rebates.

And I believe that the POS rebates will ultimately be far more than the CBO scoring suggests.

It ๏ฟผwas a missed opportunity to allocate those funds to broaden US manufacturing competency.

Happy !

Here we are with another edition of Adam Around - and, like last time, with 3 currently unoccupied buildings.

But as opposed to last time, these buildings likely have a soon-to-be bright future.

First up, is the Detroit Life Building on Park Avenue: https://historicdetroit.org/buildings/detroit-life-building

This building is planned to be renovated into residential units under the so-called "District Detroit" project which has received significant city and state financial backing.

adamjcook, to detroit

The Beaubien House.

Built in 1851, it is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Downtown .

Today, I believe that it is an office building for rent and/or a small co-working space.

adamjcook, to China

Truer words have yet to be spoken.

Just look at the failed (not literally, but certainly effectively) Manufacturing USA initiative - a constellation of research institutes first launched in 2012 to counter the Made In 2025 program.

To its credit, the Administration foresaw the Chinese economic threat to the West before most in Washington, but the actions taken were structurally ineffective.

It's Shakedown Time in !

I really doubt that the would stay in Downtown Chicago and, if even needs to be said, the 5th Floor is just being used to leverage additional tax breaks on their newly-acquired properties in Arlington Heights.

Classic stuff by team owners.

At least if the Bears move out, the city can finally turn that surface parking lot to the south into a public park or something...

Going live again on my channel in a few minutes. Probably going to make this an ad-hoc, regular thing - with weekly, and educational streams intermixed in there.

Today, it will just be me working on some OnShape models with some classical music in the background. I do not plan to do much talking unless there are questions in the chat.

I am new to OnShape (having used PTC Creo for decades), so I am in a learning phase. ๐Ÿ˜…

Another day, another edition of Adam walking around . ๐Ÿ“ธ

Today, is featured the Three Amici along Bagley Street.

Two are problem children. One is not.

Let's end on the happier note.

This is the former Hotel Leland, currently owned by a deadbeat slumlord named Michael Higgins who is racking up blight tickets from the city while using it as a dangerous and unkempt apartment building.

Detroit is now suing Higgins to seize the property.

And it is about damn time.

It is interesting watching (from afar) sheepishly backtrack on the hype.

There were three, maybe four ringleaders as far as I could tell - which included some that are competent in science and physics that should have known better.

But whipping up useless hype gets people paid by Twitter at the moment.

It all really underscores my position on how unsuitable Twitter is for actual science and public education - and that was fairly true even in the pre- Twitter Era.

First, the ... perhaps now the Files?

, a prominent business publication, has obtained a considerable amount of internal Tesla files that may point to and vehicle concerns that were possibly hidden by Tesla.

Apparently, Handelsblatt is releasing reports on these files in stages.

I will be watching this space... probably to add comments after more is publicly released.

This is a really bad idea in my view and not just because I am not at all convinced โ€œflying taxisโ€ are actually viable, but that it continues to put more and more chips on transportation-related industry in .

We really do need to diversify more, even noting the immense progress made on that front over the past few years.

This is really more of a story about and its immense effectiveness failures - a long-standing problem that underpins US construction and activities.

The agency existing, on paper, while doing nothing actually harms the public as the public thinks there is someone looking out for their interests when there is not.

Are there any costs to and taxpayers in putting all of your chips on a sweeping "public transportation" system attached to a mercurial, serial liar like ?

Any chance that today's "no taxpayer money" will not be true tomorrow once Musk has his hooks into your city and county?

"Fix the damn roads" is one of the most out-of-touch slogans in politics today and I wince every time I hear and see it.

I live in and I cannot even get a damn bus to because the City of Livonia was allowed, inexplicably under Michigan Law, to simply opt-out. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

โ€™s last free-standing synagogue, one of the most unique buildings in Detroit, just completed a $5.4 million renovation.

Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue.

And the building looks great.

It is absolutely wonderful that these institutions and community staples are doubling down on Detroitโ€™s future.

We need more of this.
