Hello everyone in the !

A quick ...

My name is Adam Cook and my primary interests include , , and .

I am also very passionate about and - as such, I am working on a personal project called ManufacturingOpen which I hope to reveal soon.

I recently moved from to after 4 years - mostly to go once again.

Lastly, I am a to Tiggy and Benny, as pictured!

Alright, so last week, a jury in California rejected the claims brought against 's product.

I am not a lawyer and the detailed analysis of legal issues is orthogonal to the obligations of experts in educating the public and in criticizing regulators.

The responses from the jurors in this case are interesting, though... and very much expected.

Let's briefly break this down a bit.

Oof.

What an absolute mess of a video from the Verge - and this mess has some dire public safety ramifications.

Not even sure where to begin, but let's look at a few things...

An interesting article here by @mimsical and I would recommend reading it.

I think it is a reasonable take on how, essentially, the regulatory landscape will look in the US and perhaps elsewhere.

That said, I have some notes.

Not so much on the article itself... but on my favorite punching bag, the .

For those that do not know, the NHTSA is the unserious, disinterested and effectively theoretical regulator in the US for vehicle and roadway safety. 🧵

’s completely unsupported and unhinged promises of future therapies, treatments or prosthetic devices enabled by his firm and this ” humanoid robotics project is pretty damn disgusting.

A new, disgusting low.

Even relative to Tesla’s vast and wrongdoings, which is saying something.

This man lies like he breathes.

So, Chair Khan, are we going to finally do something about manufacturers dangerously exaggerating the capabilities of -equipped automated driving systems?

Or nah?

Because this has been going on for nearly 10 years now.

You know... one almost has to admire the absurdity of how a goddamn finally blew the top off of primordial safety issues that have long-existed in the "AI" industry.

I have been reflecting on this. Let's explore.

Another thing that I hope can be brought to in time is a thread authoring tool like had - that is, an ability to compose a thread in its entirety before it is published.

From an engagement standpoint, I think that helps immensely as people are generally not going to wait around for the finale.

This is a really, really dumb thing to do on the part of the .

It plays right into ’s hands and damages your journalistic credibility more than if you did not initially suspend your activity in the first place.

Obviously, nothing has changed in terms of and editorial interference over the past month on Twitter - if anything, it has become far worse.

Really dumb.

A walk down Cass Avenue (my first time) in over the weekend. 📸

There is work to do, of course, but things are really shaping up.

In the near-to-medium future, there are serious discussions about putting a cap over the I-75 highway (as shown) - which would partly undo the separation that exists between Midtown and Downtown.

The cap would feature a park, most probably.

Let's talk about vehicles equipped with a bit - a Level 3-capable vehicle that has been recently "approved" in a handful of US states.

This article almost entirely focuses on the legal dynamics of consumer liability should this vehicle create a direct (or, presumably, an indirect) incident.

But, as always, I want to talk about what I feel are the realities at work here and the many foot-guns that are associated with that.

Just curious from any out there...

What is the opinion on these days versus ?

If you were a Twitch streamer, did you move over to Kick? If so, how has it been going? Thinking about moving over?

Getting ready to launch an and -related educational stream (not games, no one wants to see me flop around on games 😅).

Planning on multi-streaming to YouTube, TikTok and either Twitch or Kick.

The is a deeply troubled agency and I think the "reforms", whatever they may be after the 737 MAX scandal, will come up hopelessly short.

Sadly, the FAA is probably the most robust agency under the US Department of Transportation.

Agencies like the (the agency responsible for highway and vehicle safety) might as well not even exist.

Secretary Buttigieg has been profoundly disappointing on this front.

Here is a unique one that I snapped yesterday in .

This is from inside the original stairwell of the Kales Building (opened in 1914), looking out, at the stabilized facade that used to be part of the now-demolished Adams Theatre Building.

The facade and the Kales Building are shown here on Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.3362573,-83.0521193,171a,35y,351.23h,18.18t/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu

Caught this Twitter Space segment yesterday which puts a finer point on my Mastodon thread from yesterday: https://mastodon.social/@adamjcook/110616834664093201

Ross Gerber, a prominent investor and advocate that was featured in my previous thread is clearly angry that his -active vehicle was observed in displaying some highly-compromising behaviors.

This conversation is telling because we have really reached the "next stage" of this vast Tesla wrongdoing - organized collusion outside of Tesla.

A Twitter Spaces conversation from sometime on June 28th. The Twitter Space is entitled "Tesla Deep Dive". Ross Gerber is primarily speaking throughout the clip. At the end of the clip, the Spaces host, a Twitter user by the alias of Wolf, cuts in to presumably move the conversation into a different, less-heated area. Many other prominent Tesla online community members are shown in this Twitter Spaces room.

This is a good piece, but the one small nit that I have again is bringing in a "data argument".

I know that it is tempting for an audience that is generally not at all experienced in systems, but I would highly recommend resisting it.

In fact, there is no could be higher.

It is our obligation to assume that the "crash rate" of 's product is unquantifiably higher.

This is an interesting project.

I walk past the Bonstelle Theatre often.

Midtown has a lot of untapped potential, perhaps not untapped much longer though.

If we can manage to get a cap over I-75, we could really be in business I think.
