I love how every single anti-bird design choice just doesn't work at all, and usually results in exactly the behavior they're trying to prohibit.

As if there wasn't already enough reason to hate Florida, the state just passed a bill that makes it almost impossible to convert a car lane to a bus lane or a bike lane.

Are you guys loving all that American Freedom™️?

Right wing governments hate cities and good urbanism. If you care about these things, you need to vote left. It shouldn't have to be this way, but it is.

@notjustbikes this is definitely the Republican backlash to the Tampa M.O.V.E.S. program, which is an actually really good comprehensive mobility program.

Not the first time the Florida state government specifically went out of its way to specifically fuck over Hillsborough county. RIP penny tax that was supposed to pay for basic road maintenance.

"In 2021, half of all trips in the United States were less than three miles, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Making those short trips on an e-bike instead of in a car would likely save people money, cut their emissions, and improve their health and happiness."

Until a couple of weeks ago, we were a two car household. Just moved to a place that's far more bike/walk friendly for a new job. So we sold the old gas car and replaced it with a cargo e-bike. Still keeping the electric car because work is a cool 40 minute drive in ideal conditions.

I think there's a commuter bus option for work. Not 100% sure how work's schedule and the bus schedule mesh. Going to have to look into that.

After my last 2 videos, I've seen an increase in comments (especially on reddit 🙄) that my "tone" is driving people away, and that I'd be much more successful if I was nicer.

Coincidentally, I've also seen a huge bump in Patreon supporters this month.

I've had an increase in the absolute number of Patreon supporters, but I've also had many people increase their contribution amount, even though I provide no benefits to anyone who does that. 🤔

You make some of the best content on YouTube, period. Not even restricting it to the niche of urbanism.

The orange pill isn't a joke. Putting a name to the feelings and presenting a view of a better way is an incredible skill.

On Dec 20, 1777, the Kingdom of Morocco became the world's first country to recognize U.S. independence. Sultan Mohammed III ordered Moroccan ports to open to American ships & an alliance was built.

Some ignorantly claim that Islam & Muslims are incompatible with America. In truth, America's longest global alliance is with Muslim majority Morocco.

So this July 4th—recognize that America’s greatness is as a secular nation that celebrates people of all faiths & no faith on the tenets of justice.

I feel that I had a pretty good American History education, and even mine didn't dive into the early geopolitics of the United States and the nations of northern Africa.

Which is a crying shame, because it was deeply entwined with the rest of the politics around early international trade and the lead-up to the War of 1812.

After my last lifestream to the "knip" in Weesperstraat, several right-wing trolls were saying I was a lying WEF shill for "avoiding" the Kattenburgerstraat; the street with such crippling traffic due to the knip that the VVD are demanding an immediate stop to the 6-week project.

So this morning at rush hour I visited the Kattenburgerstraat and as it turns out, the right-wing press are lying.

Shocking, I know.

Here's my livestream of my visit to Kattenburgerstraat:

When I grew up it was a good thirty minute drive to downtown (Charleston, SC). Rush hour would see that balloon to over an hour on a daily basis. If traffic was bad, it would be two hours.

It got better after they finished the highway expansion on I-526. For a couple of years, anyway. From what family members still in the area say, traffic is just as bad as it used to be.

Fortunately, they seem to have learned their lesson this time.
