Just realized that I'm working on a lot of Fediverse projects:

  1. , a federated audio/video P2P streaming server

  2. , a fully-managed Fediverse hosting service

  3. An "unnamed" federated crowdfunding platform

  4. An "unnamed" onboarding platform for the Fediverse

  5. A local Fediverse server, vancity.social, 's home on the Fediverse

  6. A general server, calckey.social

  7. An art server, calckey.art

  8. Testing of various clients and platforms...

Should I migrate this account (@atomicpoet) to https://calckey.social?

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@bainstor I also have an account there (@atomicpoet).

However, rightly or wrongly, most people perceive this one (@atomicpoet) as the main account.

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@tx_tartan @fdrc_ck I will indeed abide by the results of the poll.

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@shadowtux Calckey allows you to migrate both your followers and your posts.

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@mastodonmigration I mean, I already use Calckey more often than Mastodon. I just don't post from there as often.

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@luckysitsinback You'll still see me on Mastodon. Because both Mastodon and Calckey use ActivityPub, the two software talk to each other. That means, you will receive all of my posts from Calckey should I migrate there.

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@natriumchloride Eh, a few people have opinions.

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@jimbreeds @binarytango Nothing is "wrong" with my .social account.

is not "better", but it's very different.

I've written many threads on what makes Calckey unique. Here's two of them:

https://mastodon.social/@atomicpoet/110330138893896925

https://mastodon.social/@atomicpoet/110317691654195327

If you want to see what's different, I suggest trying out Calckey for yourself!

@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

Whatever happens, I still plan on running a Mastodon server that's open to the public.

That was always the plan anyway.

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@ArtBear It’s better to air on the side of caution. And we’re already having conversations with @wild1145 about re-federating.

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@ArtBear I spoke with @wild1145 yesterday. I also let him know @kainoa will be in touch.

I’m keen for a resolution, but it’s important they have a dialogue before a decision is made.

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@the_roamer @ArtBear @wild1145 Let me give you context. For two weeks in March, I was on vacation. During that time @kainoa was the sole mod on calckey.social. The server only had 200 accounts and was not the flagship instance. He received two reports, didn’t hear back, and made the best decision he could at the time—with the information he had. A month later, things change and we re-assess.

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@the_roamer @ArtBear @wild1145 @kainoa Here’s the other thing. Nobody could have predicted what happened with calckey.social. It went from being my side project to being a major concern very, very quickly. So no, there was no big conversations with other server admins because it wasn’t even a blip on the radar until recently.

Now that things are what they are, we adjust.

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@rymecity To Calckey? Yes.

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@rymecity Sure, you have to download an archive of your posts and then upload them.

I do believe more users should use there’s a lot that the team and users in general can learn from those in the and clear up misconceptions

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@mekkaokereke @davidslifka @supernovae @damonoutlaw That’s big news! I’m already donating to his project, Fipamo without even knowing he was working on his own *key.

By the way, have you spoken with @darnell? He has a lot of expertise about different aspects of the Fediverse. He also runs a server, and is also familiar with its forks.

atomicpoet,
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

@mekkaokereke @supernovae @damonoutlaw One thing positive about Bluesky is that the Black community has already developed a rich culture there.

But things can change on a dime.

At one time, marginalized communities defined the culture on Mastodon.

There was a time that autistic people were a big chunk of the Fediverse (I’m one of them). There were lots of LGBT, disabled, neurodivergent.

Now things have changed.

It just happened!

https://misskey.io overtook https://mastodon.online!

As tabulated by FediDB, it is now the 5th largest Fediverse server!

This is quite symbolic because, for the first time, #Misskey's flagship server now has more users than one of #Mastodon's flagship servers!

The best way to explain is to imagine what would happen if (pre-Elon) fell in love with and they had a baby.

That baby would be Calckey.

Twitter + WordPress = Calckey

Let me explain... 🧵

atomicpoet,

@kidehen That sucks. What browser is this?

@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

From Elon Musk, the fellow who summoned John Mastodon, comes a new epic drama...

THE PURGE!

atomicpoet, to random
@atomicpoet@mastodon.social avatar

Keep in mind why I opted for using Fediverse groups instead of hashtags: anyone can use a hashtag and therefore hijack it.

There’s no way to block someone from using a hashtag. However, trolls can be blocked from using a group.

Just heard a rumour that https://yarn.social is slowly rolling out support for .

https://yarn.social is a decentralised and self-hosted social media platform based on the Twtxt format that has a privacy-first focus.

To find out what it looks like, here's an example of a yarn server:

It's interesting to watch how other decentralized social networks adopt .

Hey @gruber, how will be tangibly different from Mastodon?

Because with what Bluesky devs are telling me, defederation with AT protocol should be possible.

It would be incredible on Bluesky’s part if a server couldn’t defederate.

If you want to give the New York Yankees some grief, this might be your home in the Fediverse!
